I taught my friend Britt how to drive a manual transmission with my Dodge Viper. Then it broke down. hey bud: Shes not bad. or it was like shot number 30 and he just started the video off from there. When learning to drive my manual a few months ago I stalled it several times in a parking lot, Burned the clutch a little to the point where the car smelled like clutch, then let my mom drive the car home. I did however drive it back to my house that night. I'm 32 btw. I started in bay area heavy traffic commutes to work a few days later after getting comfortable driving the car around the suburbs on a sunday. I really only stall now when im going to park and just being extra careful and slow because my car is lowered and has rims that stick out as well so its very unforgiving to curbs and speed bumps.

Best way is before moving off 1 take car out off gear in (neutral )2 find out where the bite of clutch by lifting off your left foot slow until car starts to cut out. Now you know how far to riseleft foot on the clutch. 3 Put into 1st gear lift of left foot until you feel the bite and put right foot down until 3000 rpm then rise left foot has you put rightfoot down at 3000 rpmAfter a few times following 1, 2, 3 steps your away

Nice I learned on my dads brand new 2012 Mustang GT that he bought when overseas and I had to drive it back to my house I had never driven a manual before leaving the dealership parking lot. Of course I stalled 2 times but got it into gear then drove home through the neighborhood so I could stay in 1st or 2nd gear HAHA good timesthat car was so much fun to drive

Why didn't you start by explaining the clutch biting point and rolling along in gear without using the accelerator at all? Have the hand brake on, put it in gear and lift the clutch slowly until you feel it bite, then let of the hand brake and keep lifting the clutch. It's the simplest way to get people used to using a clutch.

Don't start her off with a Viper dude, you're torturing her. Start off with a Civic Si or something with a nice light responsive clutch. That's not a coolant leak, that's simply the Viper vomiting all of its green venom. It's saying I'm feeling sick and need to take a nap, hopefully no one ever drives me like that again

I'm sorry but a Dodge Viper is the WRONG car to teach anyone to drive stick on, so I'm honestly not surprised that this happened. That and being vague doesn't help either. Call it karma that it broke down. Also that car was cool in Gran Turismo, but let's face it, its a death trap in real life.

I'm sorry, but how do people not at least understand how a manual transmission works and how to drive one? I was like 10 or so when I figured it out and my first car was a POS manual. Lol. I think everyone should learn how to drive a stick car, I think that would help them be better drivers all aorund.

I don't understand why you have to learn manual by yourself, here in the Netherlands almost all cars are a manual and all the driving lessons and exams in the whole country are done in manual cars. And then when you get your license you can drive both manual and automatic

Oof i tell you what i once tried driving stick on a private terrain, Scary af. When you release the clutch and not put your foot on the gas: Crack bang and your neck snaps. Oooooooooof That is why stick is a bit. Weird for me. Gimme a Dual clutch transmission it's easier.

Doug you are an amazing teacher Totally patient and encouraging. Great work Teaching a female to drive a stick can be the most frustrating thing in the world where you just wanna scream and you handled that very well and she picked it up pretty quickly too
