I had a first generation rx-7. I got it in the late 90s, so it was old even then. It was such a fun car to drive, and the engine sound was unparalleled. It was normally aspirated, but it still sounded more like a jet engine than a car engine. And the real crazy thing, as Doug hinted, it sounded smoother as you reved it up. Rx-7s were early cars to get rev limiters because of the engine sound tricking people into over-revving it. I delivered pizza in mine, and I loved it. Doug says reliability was a problem for the third gen, but I didn't see that in my first gen. Pizza delivery really loads the miles on, and it was already an old, well used car. But the only work it needed were mundane things like work on the hydraulics for the brakes and clutch, and at one time and igniter for the engine which was super easy to do myselfWhat killed it was frame rust. The rear suspension was pulling free of the frameAlso, easiest car to work on in the world. Small as it is, the engine is smaller. The engine compartment had so much open space, everything was accessible.

I had this exact model color everything. 94 r2 silver/black. The headlight button for raising the lights without turning it on is in the case of ice/frozen rain you put them up before. The motor/headlights in there are 1 assembly and cost me about 300 each to replace. The motors were pretty fragile it seemed so in ice they'd get frozen shut and you wouldnt be able to drive at night. The covers on top are held on by about 3 screws and flimsy plastic, and the black surround was even more prone to break. I guess these are old car issues. Then again its not like anything else was reliable on the car even when it was new. I still miss it as it reliably put a smile on me every single time i drove it.

Again I say weak People dont get into rotaries cause of their continued support from mazda or any other entity they do because of something thats hard to put into words its part experience part feeling and Im sure different for all OWNERS but as u can see they are un successful in different ways to different people and still people search for them they are rare not fuel efficient and still people like them u can talk all u want about a movie franchise (that I do like for the most part) but its mainly cause its car porn I like reading ur comments cause I show my friends and we all have a good laugh I will forever love rotaries and u will never have friends lol so keep the comments coming dr

My parents had a 1988 charcoal grey RX-7 and they bought it 2 weeks before i got my license. I got to drive it to my high school more than a few times and i was the coolest kid in school. And it was a chick magnet. I got many a dates with the hottest girls in school when i got to drive that car. but unfortunately it was totalled in an accident by some kid who ran a stop sign. thank god it wasn't me driving. i think my father cried for 2 weeks cause that was his baby. Some great memories i had of that car.

I don't like your practicality category. You're assuming that a 2 seater isn't practical for a single person, no kids. In fact, an SUV with lots of storage and seats, is actually impractical for dingle people. It's also practical for parking and driving in dense cities, like San Francisco. Practical doesn't mean BIG. It means almost the opposite. It means just enough to do intended job without going overboard.

This one looks a little jacked up in the rear, I had a 93 R2 that was much more level looking. The paint on the plastic rear view mirrors, nose and spoiler had a way of badly fading (mine was arrest me red. I had to have my plastic parts painted with very few miles on it. It was a Florida car but always garaged. Beautiful car that ran like a Yamaha YZ dirt bike. A very non-linear power band.

Im a bit late to the party here. Just watched the vid and the courtesy button that pops the heads lights without turning them on is there so the lights can be left open during the winter season where trying to operate the lights in freezing temps could damage the motor/mechanism that actuates the lights.

I want one red or black with the beige leather interior, I love the beige interior look. The fd3s also has one of the best looking dash and driver positioning of any sports car, The only better is the supra imo because the supra dash is so driver focused but this is my second favorite dash.

the exhaust heat had me thinking they could have added something like what would happen if you added a water/meth injection to the exhaust to keep the temps at bay? Just use metal tubing like egr with a metal mist head and connect it too the windshield wiper sprayer?
