The E60 and E93 gen BMW cars are the ones where I left BMW. Not really but since these models came out I stopped being interested to buy any newer model at all. First into the brand for me was the E30, then I got myself some E46 models and some E39, even a E38, but I sold most of them again just to keep a good E46 and a daily E39. After the F models came along I tried them as well but it sort of feels off track from what BMW used to be for decades and even thou I liked the F models (and later models) I still keep with the E46 and E39. They simply work well for me and they offer me everything I like on a car. So why bother with a change? :)

I had basically the same engine in my 2006 M6. Fabulous car to look at and to drive, but oh boy do the bill's start coming in with problems, electrics, clutches (2 in six years) and multiple fail showings on screen. Main dealer bills very high, had a front axle problem with a breakage at about 60k miles and that was a 2k job. Went back to my old 325 SE 1994 and was so relieved to see back of what was my dream machine. I am told that the M6 was not actually sorted out until 2011, I'll take a rain check on that

BMW must have known about the problems of the engine. Why not just unlock the full potential of the engine all the tile instead of using an M mode? BMW must be thinking keep the engine defined so it wont blow up too soon. Then have this special break in period, variable redline, and some ridiculous oil viscosity like 10w-60 to sum it all up. 60wt is pretty thick for its era, which makes me wonder if they were trying to cover up some manufacturing issues by using thick oil.

Hmmmm. I owned a beautiful Indianapolis Red E60 for many years. I replaced the transmission in it, TWICE. about 20 grand each time I know. bad decision. 'Twas the most fun, head-turning vehicle I've ever owned. Unfortunately, it's the most unreliable vehicle I've EVER owned. I'll never forget the time that the transmission stooped working on a road trip down California 1 toward Carmel. Damn, damn, damn Never keep a BMW after the warranty ends.

If you bought one of these then you would have to engineer it with stronger conrods, obviously Doug is that kind of guy thats a douchebag and is not an engineer otherwise he would have gone into a more in depth explanation of why the conrods fail, is it because of the cylinder walls. Rings seizing or weak made conrods? Thats why I dont like this guy he is about as Thick as all Americans with explanation

Thats why best e60 is 535d remap mine is stage1 340hp and 650Nm. It cost 1/4 of an M5 and I am using it daily. 0 to 60 under 5 seconds which is ok. Had few runs on highway vs 2019 civic type r focus rs and they didnt stand a chance. That tourque is just massive. Car prices starts at 2500 pounds here in UK. Well thats 1 thing missing and thats the petrol sound: )

How about getting one with a blown engine and dropping in an LS? On a long enough timeline everything gets an LS in the immortal words of one Mr Regular. I had a 2007 X5 for 4 years and the longest stretch with nothing broke and undrivable was maybe 6 months. BMW - only if its leased so you can turn it back in before the self destruct timer starts ticking.

I feel sorry for everyone I see that buys these things 3rd or 4th hand, always bragging about how it was a good deal and it works fine. Only guy I knew who bought it 2nd hand has it as a garage queen and pretty much only drives it for cars and coffee never long road trips or track which I also find funny

Lucky you came accross a manual, here in Australia its all SMG, and saw a friend threw so much money to keep it running, loan after loan, he called it quits finally cause of rod bearing and gearbox problems. it does make a sweet noise, but doesnt justify the money he spent on it.
