The backseat armrests each had its very own ashtray and cigarette lighter built in You just lift up the shiny metal flap on the armrest and they're under there. An interesting bit of trivia from the early 80's is the Consumer Reports magazines of the day when reviewing new car models listed as a con cars 'only' having front seating for two people Three seat front benches were preferred and even expected by the consumers and therefore the reviewers. They may not ever use the middle seat but felt it should be there anyway if they needed it or they weren't getting everything they should be getting as standard in a car. If you wanted luxury AND sportiness you bought a Beamer, albeit they were half the size of today's BMW's, lol. The fact that Cadillacs didn't drive like Corvettes made Cadillac perceived as classier in part BECAUSE of its much more reserved performance. This is what I (born in 1972) consider to be a 'real' Cadillac vs the sporty outer space looking vehicles that wear the Cadillac badge today. My father had an '83 Sedan De Ville and it was truly a living room on wheels My father is 81 now in 2019; He's never owned what he would call a 'Jap' car and he really truly wouldn't drive what is called a Cadillac today even if it was free.

Had a 79 Seville and 81 Sedan de Ville. Both diesel powered (I know how to maintain a diesel, so it wasnt that much of problem. That said, I put 400 K on the Seville and only gave it up due to my inability to find parts for the HVAC. The de Ville belonged to my mother and after she passed, I drove it for about 100K more. Loved those cars, especially the fact O got about 30mpg In them. If I could find a real cherry early 80s model Id buy it and drop in a supercharged LS 3 engine from a CTS-B, heavy-duty springs and air shocks that auto-level, and have a real road warrior that could pull a 6000 pound trailer and still stick the whole family into. Be a real sleeper, in a straight line anyway.

The Penalty Of Leadership was an award-winning Cadillac print ad in the early part of the 20th Century (1915 to be exact. It only ran once in the Saturday Evening Post. A solemn, black and white ad when the IN thing was to put as much color as possible to attract attention. It was also notable in that the brand Cadillac can be seen only twice, and NO mention of any car model for that matter. The ad was written by Cadillac Advertising Manager Theodore F. MacManus and it created a sensation. It sorta put a stamp on the identity of Cadillac as a premium luxury brand. The fact that within a few short years, Cadillac stood for Luxury indicates the success if the company's marketing efforts.

My dad had one of these when I was a kid. Technically it was a 1980 Fleetwood Brougham. But it was blue, and every little detail Doug mentions brought back memories. I used to love watching those hood turn signals when I sat up front. When I was in the back, those little reading lights kept me busy with my books on long road trips. The seats were SO comfy as a kid. Our cadillac was so long, my dad had to remove the rear bumper and trailer hitch to get our garage door to close. Yes, we actually pulled a small pop up camper with this 140 hp.

Back into early 2000s, I was in primary school in Northeast China, this car is almost the best looking car I can see in my hometown, many of those rich mid age people loved to have a Brougham, when other most common cars on road are VW jetta, VW passat and Citreon zx, just imagine how shining this thing is when it is surrounded by old VWs and Citreons. I don't know how do other people see this, but for many Northeast Chinese people who was born at the very end of last century, this car is definitely a symbol of that time in our memory.

You're getting lazy Doug or perhaps you've never been that thorough, there's a 3rd indicator on the cluster of 3 lights on top of the fender, But you failed to mention what the 3rd one was for, The turn signal indicator indicates in a yellow fiber optic cable, the headlights indicate in white fiber optic cable and the bright lights in a blue, the 3rd one that you didn't mention is the bright lights indicator, Additionally I mentioned the specific colors for each because you failed to do that as well.

My dad had a Cadillac land yacht in the 80s - the Sedan DeVille d'Elegance. It had those little red lights that faced the mirror so you knew if the rear light bulb went out. But I was a new driver then and every time I had to drive at night and those lights came on I could only think about the Amityville Horror (a classic movie at that time) and it gave me the creeps All you would see in the dark of night was two faint red eyes glowing at you from the back

14: 40 the hood ornament bends so that when you go through a automatic carwash the thing doesnt snap. For no other reason. Also the inside rear lights dont just light up when you brake it also lights up with the use of the turn signals. The reason is simply so remind the older owner if they leave their blinkers on they will notice upon glancing in the rear view mirror. The tail light plastic surround is plastic to allow for a 5mph bumper hit with no damage.

His review of this car is insulting. He had no clue of many of the options. Fiber Optics? The plastic lid between the overhead lights was for the CADILLAC Garage opener option. He continues to compare this car to the Mercedes. The Cadillac was reasonable to keep serviced and on the road. Show me a 30 year old Benz that has not had its original cost spent on maintenance. Bad review Doug. Research before you review.
