Thanks Doug, This is my all time favorite ca and I was considering selling it for a japanese crown v8, but you convinced me to keep it. The thing to remember about the fj is IT was a concept car way back as a direct tribute to the original Fj Cruiser. ALSO the 3 wipers is a nod to the original FJ. Here in australia the mirror lights wouldnt pass Design rules, so they cut in a quarter panel light repeator. The gear selector, was originally an unscrew-able handle for a camping / 4wd shovel. The large controls are exactly for snow gloves, again the backup camera was a compromise for design rules, originally it was a bigger screen on the concept car again but design rules won out. The rear view mirror is also electromagnetic meaning it dims headlights. In non us models the temp selector is actually f/c crazy enough. non us also got a touchscreen stereo that color codes to the stereo.

It's still here. My uncle purchased on UAE. They're still making. Just no in the states. Toyota said they only want 1 off road vehicle to focus on and don't want to departments cranking out two different things. And since Fj wasn't practical and wasn't selling, it got the boot. I was also told that if they were going to make it, they'd only use what is available here in America. And what is avialable is the 3. 5 v6 from the camry and the 5. 7 v8. I won't be getting the v8. The Fj was made in Japan with the 4runner and the 4. 0 engine is for that market and overseas. So they won't be making the 4. 0 v6 in american for the FJ. Can't justify the price. Also can't justify making the Fj for American and shipping cause there's not enough demand. in 2014 only 14, 718 were sold. Compared to 2019 4runner which is about 150, 000.

My wife just got one of these 2 weeks ago. 2010 with 43k miles on it for 25k, BUT it's hard to find a stock part on it. Copper wrap, 20 Fuel rims, steel rhino lined bumpers, 8k lb warn winch, light bar, new radio, viper alarm and remote start, module that allows you to see vehicle stats on the radio, you name it, its been changed. It was a steal for what it is being that you can't touch one with low miles and upgrades for under 35k. I just wish that instead of 20s on it that it would have 17s, better selection of offroad tires and you can air them down, but in time that can be changed. Lucky enough it popped up about 20 miles from us, we didn't have to travel to get this one. It just barely skirts by into our one car garage.

as a fj cruiser owner here is my score: styling: 8 (one of very few affordable modern classic i can find nowadays) acceleration: 2 (actually it's better than many family oriented sedans and suvs)handling on-road: 2 (considering its width and turning radius)fun factors: 4 (it's a typical off-road suv but nothing more than that)cool factors: 4features: 4comfort: 2 (try a long distance travel, you'll know why this score is so low)quality: 10 (especiall comparing with off-road suvs in any other brands)practicality: 4 (the rear seats are ok, but the front storage area is a nightmare)value: 8 (discontinued, it holds value pretty well)

Toyota brought back the rugged off road capabilities with the 2015 4Runner. The first generations of 4Runner where more capable for offroading. Did you know the first gen has a removable top? The 4Runner went into the Soccer Utility Vehicle direction for a while until the 5th generation. During this time, I wanted the FJ bad and thought I would get one when my 1992 4Runner died. It did die and FJ's are still out of my price range. I have a lame Jeep Liberty now. I want an FJ still or 5th generation 4runner or Tacoma. Toyota makes the best light trucks and SUV's.

11 years and 100K miles on my wife's 2008. It is a middle class LandCruiser. My wife always yells at the oil change people not to vacuum out the floor mats. She likes the sand and bits of dried mud as a reminder the weekend is coming. If they brought the FJ back I would want to see a bit more room in the wheel wells. A 285/70/17 is the perfect size for this weight of vehicle and at 25psi you don't have to air up and down when you go to the beach. The rear could be done better with a narrower C pillar to eliminate the big blind spots.

at the end of the day its not a matter of opinion. they stopped selling it because it stopped selling. no company would halt a model if the economics were working. even judging by high resale value isn't objective enough given two considerations. Toyota in general holds its price, so this may not be that the FJ cruiser is special. also it could be skewed because production stopped which jacked up demand for used ones from a small number of FJ cruiser enthusiasts.

Toyota released the FJ cruiser as a tribute car for the 40th anniversary of the FJ40. From the very beginning they made it clear that they will never change the body style and it would be a one off. It's amazing how long it has been in production given it was directly competing with the 4Runner. And this is the main reason why I bought it in 06. I knew, once they stopped producing this car it would automatically be a collectors car and hence retaining its value.

I love mine. I go wheeling with some guys who own rubicons and I have been able to go everywhere they went without issue. The rubicon clearance looks better but side by side my stock FJ has the same ground clearance as the stock Rubicons. They all talked mad trash about it when I bought it. They still talk trash but it sounds more like jealousy and the topic is about how they think it looks like a soccer mom van, not about function.

Couldn't agree more on this car's current potential. Just looking at the success of the new Suzuki Jimny and the silly premiums you still have to pay on those over here seems to validate that statement. All those silly SUVs they currently sell basically look like bars of soap with wheels stuck on. Something more old-school looking while still being modern would probably be a huge hit.
