Hello Scotty, I have a question or rather I want your advice. I am currently in a bad financial situation and need my car repaired. The service station wants approx. 100 from me just to find out what the problem with my car is and if it's the high pressure fuel pump, it would cost me over 500 to change that and I can't risk these 500 right now because I believe I can do it myself and I bought my car for 1000. One morning I turned on my car, it went on without issues, but I only drove 3 meters reverse and the car silently just turned off. I tried using the ignition to turn it on about 10 times in frame of 15 minutes and it did finally turn on for less then a second. It cranks. At first I thougth and hoped it was the oil filter and I renewed it since it was time for it anyway. I checked the tubes that go into the oil filter, and tried turning the engine on to see if the fuel comes up, but nothing comes up. I just wonder if the cause is a bad fuel pump or? There are no error lights showing in the car. Car is a japanese mazda 2, 2005, second generation 1. 4 liter Diesel with 98k miles on it (158k km. It does not have a fuel pump in the tank. Just one high pressure fuel pump in the front. Do you have an advice to get the car going again? I am a trainee at a software developing company in Germany and I don't have rich parents: / maybe you or some people would say, don't buy a car you can't afford, but public transportation in germany is horrible (lol, why would everyone think its so great here, trains and buses come too late, which makes you not get your next connection, which means you need 30 minutes more to get to your work or so. Its 25 minutes with the car vs 90 minutes with the public transportation xD please help.

I have a '97 E420 with the M119 V8 engine and I have 189k miles on it. It's still my daily driver. I wish I understood why all Mercedes-Benz are labeled as money pits. The car runs just great with normal maintenance and I'm able to work on everything myself. Crazy thing is, I had a '99 Accord where some parts like the alternator and even the water pump cost more than on the Mercedes. They are great cars if you do your research and buy a car that has been taken care of.

That person asking about there nice rims and using them with snow tires. Yes like Scotty said get the steel wheels to use. B U T change to them a month before the first time you might get snow. I was doing the same thing and tried to keep the nicer wheels on as long as I could. Well I got stuck with the nice wheels and it snow. Got them off and washed them before putting them up for the winter. But in the spring they were all pitted and ruined anyway.

Disagree with you scotty, mercedes v8's from 1998 to 2003 was the best reliable daily drive cars, I own a 1992 mercedes 500e not that money pit but expensive to maintain, parts last 20 years and if you maintain it well all your life, I daily drive a e55 amg from 2001 and in 6 years only replaced the crankshaft sensor (40 Bosh brand new) they are incredibly cheap to maintain (1998-2003) and incredibly reliable cars

I honestly can't for the life of me figure out why so many people waste their time with Chevy, GM, Ford, Nissan, etc. Do they love throwing their money away? A smart person will get a Toyota or Honda. I can see a BMW or Audi since they are fun cars even if they are endless money pits. They want a Chevy or Dodge or some crap to save 20 a month on their car payment over a reliable Toyota or Honda.

Vapor lock. I haven't heard that term in a long time. In the '70's, I had a '62 Studebaker Lark with a V8. I lived in San Bernardino, and the first summer I had it, it had a real problem with vapor lock. I would pour cold water on the fuel pump and it would work fine. My friend suggested putting clothes pins on the fuel line and it worked Never had a problem with vapor lock again.

The place my dad worked at one of the things they built where armored cars. One day over a weekend a person or group of people broke in. They went to where a finished armored car sat. Then they shot all sorts of guns and calibers at it to see if anything would penetrate. That was so long ago I don't remember if my dad said if anything got through.

Actually it was America that thought it was a good idea to put a gas airplane motor in a Sherman. Spark plugs got junked up because of idling. Plus made a great fire when hit. they were nicknamed after a cigarette lighter. Not like german motors were able to pull the weight very well either. Sherman's were fast but couldn't withstand hits.
