This Device Just Killed Someone (Don\'t Install on Your Car) Zski: What a remote starter essentially does is hotwire your car. It's just a relay pack that first puts power to the accessory, then the ignition, then cranks the starter. Cars with immobilizer systems will have a special module that pretends the key is in the ignition during the time of cranking. I agree that you should, in a modern car, run your own power and ground. Also solder every connection. No crimped wire splices. The solder joint should be properly wetted. Meaning the solder flows between each strand. If it just sits on top it's not a proper joint. There either isn't enough flux or head.

i have a 2006 honda civic ex with a after marker system, not sure if its remote start or just an alarm theres a receiver the front windshield that says CrimeStopper and theres a red button under the steering wheel. when i bought the car the guy never said anything about the system and never gave me a remote for it. tho my car does have a factory alarm system. i would really like to remove it from my car, after watching ur video im pretty sure the 3 party alarm system in my car is making it act up

i always wanted to install crazy stereos into cars when i was a kid. first real job. i was fairly good. but the majority of pro installs on cars were prestarts. nothing but prestarts. 87% of the business we did was install prestarts. we did 2 manual transmission pre starts. made them sign a special waiver. ;)we never caught cars on fire with prestarts. we caught 2 cars on fire with booming systems though. prestarts when installed by a pro are safe. but a huge pain in the a to install.

Living in Winnipeg Canada command start is a must. I had a command start on every vehicle I've ever owned. Many good companies can install them and it's not nearly as hard to install them as it looks. I've never had issues with any of them I've owned installed by the same person and company. If your battery dies it takes 2 seconds to reprogram them. Just make sure the company that installs them has done many of them before and you should be fine.

I agree I have a car with aftermarket remote start for over 15 years, When you start to have issues with systems that its connected to it can be a nightmare to fix. Also the big company that installed it used black tape to connect the wires. and using the remote start messes up starting or doesn't start the car any more. So i tapped off the sensor to the button so I wouldn't accidentally press it anymore.

If it didn't come with it from the factory - do not install aftermarket remote start I invite you, Scotty, to come over here to Russia, wake up at 8 AM, put a coat on and go start my car for me every day of every winter. It's not nice to have, it's necessary, because the wait times for the bus are comparable to the time it takes for the car to heat up.

I live in Ottawa, (2nd coldest national capital in the world. We have plenty of competent, experienced installers here. Both our cars have them. One installed after market and the other installed at the dealership before delivery. In recent decades I've had several cars with remote starters installed. Every one has worked flawlessly.

I have owned many of these systems, they work great. Up in Canada they are a must. You don't want to sit in your car while it's warming up (way too cold for that) Plus, the condensation from your breath will frost up the windows even worse. If you use a key, and go in the house, someone will steal your car. Happens all the time. LOL

There was one case on the show called 1, 000 ways to die some guy installed a remote start key fob system to his manual shift truck which was advised not to do and once he remote started his truck the truck started but it ended up being in gear so the truck on its own ran him over and he sadly died that way as well
