I Got a Traffic Ticket and Im Not Going to Pay It David Numbercrunch: When did the reasonable, balanced, good humored, Scotty become Fox News? I'm from Texas and I know that city and state do not wish to grow in size by having a traffic enforcement system that they own and operate. Cities all over the world do this, but Texans think it impinges on their freedom. The result is contracting out for such a system. Fine, you'd rather the state operate the system. You can make that argument. You can argue that hiring thousands more police to monitor red lights is better than automation doing it. I do not agree, but fine. You do not make that argument. You rant without addressing the fundamental issue: Is it a good thing to have people running red lights? I say it is a deadly horrible thing. Do you care to address the real issue or is seventy five dollars too much money to pay for your potentially deadly scoffing of the law. Brake lights do not mean the car is stopped, as you well know. I'm a big fan of your work, and so I'm disappointed. You should be on the side of toddlers in car seats and not on the side of scoff laws running the light. I've gotten tickets and I was at fault. Being called out and punished changed my behavior.

I believe they blow them up in Holland, I saw a big recycling bag over one here in the U. K. You not only get fined you get points on your licence & it ups your insurance & if you gain 12 points you lose your licence. They are called safety cameras but they are positioned at places where traffic is likely to be speeding up, not where all the accidents occur. The hand held cameras can make a vehicle read to go faster than it was. one was tested on a brick wall & it showed it to be doing 50 mph. Some of the cameras were never even tested on every type of vehicle like car or truck or motorcycle. If the cameras are not used correctly they can be miles out. It nothing but a cash cow for local & national government a rip off tax on the public

i think for a free country, there are too many laws governing us, they say its for your protection but really its just to control you and to generate revenue, sorry but why should i wait at a red light at 3am when theres ZERO traffic why not just make the light flash red at night, like a stop sign, also i hate speed limits because sometimes they are way too low, ppl generally do 10-20 over in most zones, some are too high, ppl drive 5-10 slower, i can see speed limits in school zones and residential areas, but on the highways and freeways, there shouldnt be speed limits except during night time and adverse weather conditions, just the opinion of a guy with 2 speeding tickets in a year for speeding on a FREEWAY your thoughts?

Privatization at it's best. POS politicians selling or even giving away public responsibilities. It's just amazing that it wasn't from a foreign based company. In my area they can't privatize the roads fast enough and turn them into toll roads. An Australian company has quite a lot of the contracts, and they even have guarantees for the amount of revenue they should make from the tolls. If they don't meet a certain determined profit, tax dollars are used to make up the difference. Our governments (local, state, and federal) are so crooked and corrupt it's disgusting. Free market capitalism doing its job, enriching a few and screwing everyone else.

State law or not. Houston is a great city, but there are 6 million cars. People are rushing all the time. Running a red light can have devastating consequences. I have a friend who was hit by someone running a red light. Tragic, girlfriend killed, he had 12 surgeries, etc. its the kind of story you just tell to people. However, everyone has a similar story. Getting t-boned in an intersection is usually far worse than any other type of accident. Therefore, I was always supportive of the cameras; anything to make people think twice.

Stop the cameras - More people run red lights - More get killed - Thus, reduce population - Thus, less traffic - Less pollution. That'd work? :) in some cities in the world, there'd be smiles at Scotty's red light talk & all the comments. The roads are so traffic jammed - It's all walking speed, anyway: ) No one bothers to obey traffic lights any more & police have long given up enforcement. Crossing an intersection is a slow zig-zag by each vehicle around the other: ) Not too hard at less than walking speed?

A city up here near Boston once tried this type of thing with bogus parking tickets. All of which were written at exactly midnight, and mailed out about 4 years after the alleged infraction. I contested mine and followed it up with a nasty letter to the City Solicitor pointing out several flaws in their case, and promptly received a very briefly worded Notice Of Dismissal by mail Ive renewed my drivers license & registrations several times since then so I guess its a moot point by now lol

. nice place Texas if the red light cameras are now illegal. The truth is that it is about raising revenue. For us the fines are very high around 400. They were first introduced in 1984. It's us or France who were the first to introduce them. We were first to make seatbelts compulsory and motorcycle helmets. Severe fines for using your phone while driving also. We get fined for doing 63 in a 60 zone cos tolerance is at 5%.

Hey Scotty here in Australia we have thousands upon thousands of red light cameras but around a year ago these ripoff merchants decided that the revenue was not enough so they have combined these cameras with speed cameras so if you speed up to try and get through on a yellow they bust you for speeding. In the state of Victoria if you exceed the speed limit in this process by 2 miles per hour your busted. What a deal.
