This Makes Me Sad for America and Cars Apsco Radiales: American car makers are fully capable when it comes to making good sedans, station wagons, and small cars. The engineers working at Ford, GM, and even Chrysler know their stuff, and given some freedom can produce the best cars in the World. The problem is the bean counters, and marketing people who have the biggest say in what gets produced and what kind of a quality vehicle they will sell. Scotty, you have said that yourself in previous videos. Opel in Europe (a GM company) made very nice cars in practically every category from vans to tiny little cars, but because of GM management culture - once again being run by bean counters and marketing people ruined it, and lost all kinds of money on it. What happens next? They sell Opel to Peugeot who make some minor changes in how the company is managed, and bingo, they make all kind of profitThe marketing in USA companies is being dictated by focus groups which, in my opinion gets you to the bottom.

The last GM car I owned was a 1993 Buick Roadmaster. Great car but terrible on ice and in snow. These are the cars the US knows how to make. Before that I had a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix and a 2001 Olds Aurora 3. 5 and they were both terrible. Transmission 2X and trying to keep the stinking wheels balanced on the Olds and also dash lights would flicker for no reason. The Pontiac crossover manifold (plastic) failed and coolant drained into the engine. The interior door panels flopped around from cheapo little plastic connectors that failed. Transmission 2X. Pure crap. The Pontiac blower motor failed as did the resistor pack at a different time. All crap. The Roadmaster I had to replace the starter and radiator. But overall a dependable and comfortable car. I had bought my daughter a 1999 Ford Focus and the fuel pump failed. Crap all of it. I will never ever buy a GM, Ford, or Chrysler product. Period. Today we drive a Audi A6 and Hyundai Entourage van. Both are very reliable and comfortable.

Good riddance, my mother's 2016 fiesta has transmission problems and it doesn't even have 10k miles on it. If they didn't treat them like their experiment category and created reliable cars. then they might have actually sold. People who buy those cars are looking for reliable vehicles that will save them money. not like the SUV market where someone buying one of those has disposable income. Why do you think BMW and Mercedes get away with making junk cars that still sell? Because the people who buy them don't mind things breaking down, but someone who's buying a Ford focus is buying a cheaper car because they have less disposable income and need something reliable.

It is not because people don't want to buy sedans, it is because Detroit car manufacturers simply cannot compete with the imports. I have done some unscientific polling in my city. Removing the pickups and JEEP (because truck people will always buy pickups and JEEP people will always buy JEEP since the dawn of time, so they should be excluded from the polling, there are about 60/40 split between sedans and SUV. The problem is that among that 60%, they are all imports like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, KIA, etc etc. And that is the main problem with Detroit car manufacturers.

Here in Europe, BMW is actually quite good - I assume the 6 and 5 series is build in the States or Mexico and the cars fall under a different quality control. I had a couple of old BMWs and never had big problems with them - my actual one is an E90 320d and I did drive over 20. 000mls with it without any issue. Just replaced tires. Good, when I buy a car, I do full service, all the fluids and brakes getting fixed and then abuse the car. I drive around 100mls per day, BMW and Peugeot were the ones what stood the test of time for me.

Learned my lesson in buying a used BMW with multiple owners, BAD decision. Didn't know any better though. Oh it was fun to drive, it was a 2001 528i and the engine ran great, it was all the little things that went wrong with it, like a fuse box shorted out, because a seal leaked and water got in; power window motors going bad; cooling system leaks and the final thing was the rack and pinion unit went bad. All of these items were expensive and even third party parts weren't cheap. Never will do it again.

2012 Ford's with dual clutch transmissions in both the Fiesta & Focus are poor in start and stop driving and the very hilly terrain that we have in Western PennsylvaniaMy cousin's Focus was basically useless at 18, 000 miles and she traded it in on a Corolla; which now has over a hundred thousand miles on it. but the Toyota dealer knew it was a piece of junk b'cuz they only gave her 8, 000 on a trade, for a two-year old 18k mile garaged car -- that's ridiculous for a 26k Focus.

When I had to replace the water pump from Toyota for my FJ 60, I found out how you can sell for less. If nothing patience makes the profit. I wanted to buy a shifter from Ford for my then 9 year old Ranger. Sorry don't sell parts for 9 year old Fords. 2020 is going to be a bad year for domestic car sales. Just might want keep a few 10 year old parts around for the dealer to sell, ya think? Oh I forgot. The big 3 don't make their own parts anymore.

Be sure to closely inspect your radiator if you're losing coolant, I've dealt with a case in my car where it was losing coolant but there wasn't anything dripping, and even after the cap was replaced. Turns out there was a small hole that was partially plugged by coolant residue. Right behind the A/C condenser where we couldn't see it. And keep your radiators and coolant clean, and especially make sure you have clean coolant if you try using a sealer.
