#2 7 Car Myths Stupid People Fall For Porkkhead porkchop: Hey Scotty I drive a 2018 Toyota Corolla iM a check engine light came on at about 11, 000 miles after revving up to 4500 RPM on its own upon start up, I turned the car off made an appointment at my local Toyota dealer, the car drove fine after I turned off, but I was curious why the check engine light came on, so I took it to Napa Auto Parts to have the code read, then afterwards the code was cleared after they read it. The Toyota dealer couldnt repair my car because after the check engine light was cleared it didnt com back on and I now have 14000 miles on the car, ant guesses as to what the problem was, or still could be, Im not sure if something is wrong because it still drives normally, mind you the car has a standard transmission.

I have a question about transmission fluid. Would it cause any damage changing the transmission fluid on a car that has over 100, 000 miles and its never been changed before. Wouldnt the old fluid be keeping it going at that point like I mean Ive herd of people changing the fluid and then they get issues with the transmission slipping. I have s car I bought used 144, 000 miles on it and transmission fluids never been changed.

Scotty I totally trust everything you say about cars except for one thing. I just don't know if I believe what you say about highway mileage vs city mileage on a car. I could believe it if you said 100, 000 highway equals 20, 000 city, but 200, 000 highway equaling 20, 000 city seems really extreme. 5 to 1 ratio seems much more realistic than a 10 to 1 ratio for highway vs city mileage. Has anyone ever tested this theory?

I'd love to have one of those battery checkers. I'm driving a 1999 Hyundai Elantra wagon. It's pretty dependable. Just rolled 200, 000 miles, but buying all the stuff that Scotty suggests is taking me broke to keep my old heap going. The only way I can justify getting the battery checker now. is if I win it. (Okay, more like the only way I can afford to get the battery checker. is if I win it.

I think the myth of filling up gas in the morning, is because in the morning it is a bit denser, so you will be able to pump a bit more gas for the same volume and money. This is probably true only if there is a very big temperature differance between morning and noon and might save you a few dollers a year. Will be interesting if someone could actually calculate this based on actual data.

If, for some reason, your gas fumes catch fire while pumping, let go of the handle so it shuts off, put the nozzle back, and put the cap on. You will not get burned because the flames are small, and the cap will put out the flame. There will be no explosion. The small flame on the nozzle will go out by itself, and there will be no harm done.

Interesting about the idea that the battery cam be sufficient to crank, but not sufficient for ignition or fuel injection on a modern car. One would think with all of the computers available in the cars, it would simply have a controlled refusal to start on a sufficiently discharged battery, with an accompanying message for the driver.

My Isuzu D-Max pickup has an interesting indicator the battery is getting weak - the stability control warning light stays on longer than normal after startup. The batteries they put in them from the factory are rubbish - 12 month warranty yet the ones you can buy at the parts counter have a 2 year warranty. Go figure.

I got a 2016 toyota sienna 60 k miles only and i live in arizona it calls for full synthetic 0w20 for the oil but it eats up oil by the time next oil change is due about a quart so i stopped using that and im putting 5w20 regular oil not synthetic since its just made up of chemicals not real oil 100%

I keep my sparks safely contained inside the engine when it is running. I don't run the engine while fueling simply because there is no reason to waste gas letting it run while the car is just sitting there. I have to call the don't run your car while refueling because it might catch fire a myth.
