I own a 2002 Merc Cougar 5-speed V6 with 87, 000 miles. Red, shiny not a spot on it because I always park way far away from anywhere there are doors, supermarkets, gas stations, you get the picture, its a beautiful car, you dont see many Cougars on the road any, especially that are 18 years old like mine. Never had a problem with it, oil changes only. Engine looks as clean as the day I bought it, and I bought it new in 2005 with 23, 000 miles. Guy that owned it stored it in a barn over the winter. Its my everyday drive car. I live in MN where its cold, rainy and very snowy. Heres my point: In 2 years it will be a classic, but Im hopeful that it turns into a classic in a few years, like the Mercs from 67, 69, 71, 84, etc. My Merc, because its a manual, is very fast. Wherever I for maintenance, tire places, mechanic shops, detailing shops, someone invariably comments on it, especially the young guys. Scotty, do you know if theres a fan club for this car yet? Ive looked online but all I see are the pony cars of yesteryear. Thanks Scotty, youre da man. Be safe and stay indoors. Ugh I hate it, Im so cooped up all day long.

Hey Skotty, you keep saying volkswagens are not reliable and you are partly right they do have some engines that are very bad like the 1. 4 tsi and a few more, but here in Europe its the best brand you can buy, parts are cheap, and yes I know about Japanese cars like Honda and Toyota and no doubts about them they are great cars more reliable then VW, but they have a problem here, let me give you an example I have a friend who haves a Honda Accord from 96 and one time he broke one of his wheels it was a steel wheel and I couldnt find a replacement wheel in my area, junkyards didnt have it and shops where asking a lot for it, eventually after many searches I found one and I had it shipped, thats the problem of Japanese cars over here you cant really find parts for them and sometime you do need parts for them, thats why I think here in Europe VW its a great car, run away from French cars they are terrible. Sorry for my bad English.

As an aerospace engineer myself, I can say I take issue with the It's not rocket science phrase. Rocket science is really quite straight forward. Thrust, acceleration, basic conservation of momentum principles, even the orbital mechanics involved is all really over-hyped basic stuff that I could explain to practically anybody. Rocket ENGINEERING on the other hand, actually building the things, now that's asiodufbasdkfngasougbnadgadufgn it blew up.

Scotty the tracks on the automatic washes are not good for your car also. Many occasions the car wash guys miss align the track to the tires and it pulls and jolts the car, so I take it to an alignment center and it always comes out of alignment. I don't go to any car wash with a track that pushes the car through anymore. Also, I contribute my front cv axle failure to that too. I enjoy your car talk and repair videos.

I have a 2018 Toyota Corolla SE which I wash only with good brand car soap and a soft sponge. I use a different sponge for the tires and never wash it in direct sunlight. For drying I use soft drying cloths specially made for cars and special glass cleaning paper towels. Also put armorall on the interior plastic once a month. Its a lot of work but its worth the satisfaction knowing im maintaining my own car.

Wholly Cow This video was put up today I though they were going to get rid of you. Glad you are still on PS. I have fibromyalgia. I AM going to use the brushed car wash. When my wallet can afford it. Until then, I will drive when it rains good. And back up at high speeds to clean the back of the car. Oh, oh. the POLICE are in front of me with their lights on

Never had a problem with automatic car washes. They are the best thing since sliced bread. In my area you can't get a car wash for anything less than 20 unless you use the automatic. The money I save could pay for a whole new paint job in no time. Micro scratches? I don't notice any scratches, I do notice a lot more money in my account though.

Are GM-made ventilators going to be reliable? Since Toyota auto manufacturing plants in Japan are also in shutdown, I think I'd rather trust ventilators made by Toyota if ever they are forced by the government to make one. while Tesla-made ventilators on the other hand, might come with over-the-air upgrades and free supercharging

Ok Scotty, I got one for you. My finance's parents SWEAR up and down that you need at least a half tank of gas, otherwise it does damage to you engine. I can see running out of fuel and damaging the fuel pump. Considering the pump is lubricated by the fuel, but the engine? Come on. Please tell me they are full of crap.
