Heres Why America is Going to Have Serious Problems Making Cars Now Lazlo: The problem with electric vehicles is that the electricity has to be made somewhere. All the tree huggers out there have successfully lobbied to remove some dams in pursuit of protecting fish habitat and of course nuclear options has its enemies. So just because you don't see burning of fossil fuels at your charging outlet, doesn't mean that there isn't a natural gas or coal fired plant upstream producing electricity. I see electric vehicles being something practical in large cities with a high population density and a daily commute measured in miles. Out in the rurals though, it's nothing to commute 40 to 60 miles to get to work. Some of us think nothing of driving 3 of 4 hours to go shopping and coming home later that day or the next day. You simply don't have time nor the range in an electric vehicle when playing with those kinds of miles traveled in a short amount of time.

Although ALL car companies have cut corners, including Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, etc, Ford was clearly the worst offender. Ford deserves to go bankrupt. Ford, for decades, was essentially run by descendants of Henry Ford, instead of hiring the most capable people. As a result, the family members forced Ford to cut corners (resulting in complete junk) and pay a huge, unsustainable dividend. Now, they were forced to completely suspend their dividend, and are struggling. They do NOT deserve to be bailed out. They purposely ran the company into the ground. I don't think Ford will make it through this current recession, but I do think GM and the rest will. I suspect that Ford will be forced to ask for a bailout, and I say that when that happens, we must say NO.

I would hope that the market will have moved beyond ICE+electric hybrids 20 years from now. Between all the recent improvements, battery power and energy densities are expected to double over the next few years and should take care of most people's everyday driving requirements using more reasonably sized and affordable battery packs. For longer ranges, I'm hoping direct-electric fuel cells will come to the rescue to avoid the added weight, complexity and losses of a hybrid ICE drive train. I'd be quite happy with a 30kW battery pack to handle everyday trips and a 25kW fuel cell to power longer-range trips and never having to worry about fast-charging stations.

I've been to several car lots lately and there wasn't one person other than me on the lots. Not one. Usually there are at least another couple of people who drive through or are looking around the lots while I'm there. The showrooms also look like ghost towns. Nobody is buying cars, trucks or other vehicles now unless they absolutely have no choice. With the uncertainty over peoples' jobs and the economy now is not a good time to be making a big, unnecessary purchase if you can continue to drive your current vehicle. The good news is that Scotty is going to have LOTS of work repairing people's vehicles.

In the mid 90s I went on a business trip for a week. I came home to find out the retard mother of my son bought a brand new Mitsubishi without my permission. I dumped her and moved out. Very true story I took her to court for joint legal custody of my son and won My boy is in his late 20s, hes an awesome man. His mother was mooching off of him and he threw out of the house I dont like his mother at all, but I love my son Moral of the story. If you have a bimbo and she buys a Mitsubishi behind your back. Get rid of her Even when it was disguised under the Chrysler badge.

Hello Scotty I have a 17 F-150 5. 0 coyote crew cab 2 wheel drive automatic I believe it's a 6-speed is consuming oil I noticed it's a quart low I always have the dealership change the oil so I'm a little concerned I asked if the Ford manager if he had any problems with this before he gave me the run-around he said he will look into just the same answer he doesn't know what I'm talking about but I have seen other videos of people saying Ford has replace 5. 0 engines what do you recommend

Scotty I know u dont wanna accept it but we a close to electric cars with similar prices similar range and similar fill up times maybe 6 years longer and when that happens gas cars will disappear overnight because gas would have to be 10 cents a gallon to equal the fill up price of an electric my dads model x with 290 mile range charges at home while he sleeps and costs like 3. 50 to fill the battery thats like 2 gallons of gas and two gallons of gas isnt taking you nearly 300 miles

Hey Scotty, my dads 2001 bmw 325ci with 115, 000 miles. Engine light is on the codes are P0455, P0171, P0174, P1347, P1351, P0300. I used a spark plug tester all the cylinders are lit when car is running. The car stall sometimes or idles very roughly to the point it hardly accelerates after filling it with gas. I replaced the fuel pump because it went completely out, i also replace the fuel filter/regulator. I have looked several time for vacuum leaks, but found nothing.

The reason why the quality of Honda cars has deteriorated is because most Honda vehicle have been built in the US and Mexico. Japanese auto worker has more pride in how they build cars, vs. the average US autoworker. The US autoworker cares more about their pay and 401K, vs. building a quality and reliable vehicle. Even Toyota's that are built in plant in the southern part of the US builds more and more inferior car products.

Everytime I hear someone state that gas is cheap I remember the term negative externality from economics. Essentially, it means the side effect of an activity, like air pollution, global warming and public health effects from driving your internal combustion engine vehicle. If externalities are fully considered, gasoline should be priced at 20 a gallon, not 2. Scotty skipped class to change his brake pads during this lecture.
