Doing This Will Destroy Your Cars Gas Mileage Jared Morgan: My uncle has been a Toyota Master Mechanic for decades. He was just visiting this past weekend from Colorado with his 2008-ish Prius. Now, while the car has had a history of some very critical parts failing, most notably the Hybrid battery when he was given the car by his bosses, the car still will have 297, 000 miles on it by the time they finish the 1800 mile trip from Oregon. They broke a part on their visit here - The inverter pump let go on it. A job that most shops charge more than 2 hours labor for he had changed inside of 30 minutes. I learned something that day. 1) If you can do it yourself, do it, its an buttload cheaper; a job like that is easy money when you compare it to something much more intensive, like changing the hybrid battery. 2) If you can afford to replace your Hybrid battery in your hybrid car when it goes bad, Do it. yes its a very hefty investment to make, especially after buying the car, but it will most likely be worth it if the car is in otherwise good health. He also was nearly the ONLY Toyota tech to work on the car through its lifetime. He knows everything there is to know about that specific car and knows as much or more than anyone else about Prius. Of course, there are other Toyota Masters out there that know just as much, but compared to the rest of us.

I agree with many of your videos but I think due to your long experience you still looking at many of these car companies with your old experience. Most times your criticism of some the these cars are not true anymore. I am a fan of Toyota like you but Mercedes Benz are very much durable and reliable these day. I have a 2011 Toyota Camry with 180k and a 2008 Mercedes Benz C300 with 167k. These two are very reliable. No major fault except oil change, brake pad & other small regular maintenance. Your criticism & fear for Mercedes Benz is unfounded.

What timing. I accidentally shifted into low the other day and noticed the OD button but could not remember what it was for. If it is on, it lets car use the highest gear for better gas mileage (Thanks Scotty. If it is off, it keeps the car in a lower gear for towing. Question for Scotty, does over drive actually help for towing with a small SUV, in my case a 2011 Nissan Rogue? Or in general, what are your thoughts on the over drive button? Thanks for all your vids and congrats again on taking #1 car channel based on views, which is where its at

Hi Scotty Love your youtube channel and I personally think youre a great mechanic I have a question to ask you, since I and my mechanic cant seem to solve. Here is the issue: I have a land cruiser prado 2003 model which seems to shake a bit after a cold start if I put it into reverse or drive, and drive at low speeds. The issue goes away once the car is warmed up. Changing spark plugs and fuel filter made it shake less, but why is it still shaking? Could it be the timing belt perhaps? Btw no codes are shown Thank you

I have a question for you. Im planning to replace my 2009 lancer next year and I wonder what you think of some of the cars Im considering buying. My top three, in no particular order, are the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (black edition, the new RAV4 xle hybrid, and the Hyundai Kona with the dual clutch transmission. What do you think of those? Of them, which do you think is the best option? If it helps, whatever I end up buying will be a simple commuter/family hauler.

Every Ford I had in the 1980s and 1990s that had the AOD drove better in regular D and NOT overdrive. The minuscule fuel savings wasnt worth the poor performance in town. That AOD felt like the torque converter was locked in all gears (except 1st) and the motor was always struggling when it went into OD below 55 mph. Around town with a Ford AOD-equipped car, it drives better if you dont let it shift into overdrive.

I have found that when I travel, I use the extra power setting and get better gas mileage. I shift earlier into 5th at the bottom of hills and do not have to press the gas pedal as deep going up. It is more efficient to use the gas when traveling down hills to catch back up to speed rather than maintaining speeds going up hills (if speed drops off. I have seen up to 2-3 mpg increase using this method. 06 IS 250

Had a silver Murano like the one at 1: 30, one of the best cars I ever owned. Only got rid of it to get into something more cost effective. Sometimes I think about buying a used one, now that theyre cheap. But hearing the issues about the CVT, and remembering about getting only 22 mpg, my rational side tells me not to But I really liked that car. Never had any trans problems.

Hey scotty not sure if youll see this comment but Ive got a 2006 Honda Integra Type S, and everything on it is mint, except sometimes when you turn it to full lock or drive around a car park where the steering is under load a lot of the time, the power steering pump whines for a couple of minutes afterwards. Theres plenty of fluid in the reservoir, any idea what may be causing it?
