The worst thing about new cars is definitely 1) the 1, 200 a month pyment, and 2) the 300 a month insurance People are astonished I drive 120 miles a day with old beaters, they dont get that owning 2 cars that cost 6 grand is just a downpayment on a new car to begin with, and then the insurance is 90 a month for both. SO much cheaper than having a new car, and for gods sake the whole oh its more expensive in the long run, oh really? You think a used car is going to cost me 1490 a month in parts and repairs? lol. New cars are a luxury for people with enough money to not want to spend time at a mechanic and cant care for their own devices. New cars are a symptom of a service based world where no one has any skills, nor do they want them: the subscription service theyre getting (in this case that 1, 500 a month for the new car and insurance) will take care of the need to understand how to repair the things you own.

Maybe the alternator whine he was talking about is heard through his stereo or aftermarket radio or even a cb radio. This would indicate a breakdown of the diodes in the rectifier section or a bad filter cap. Measure the ac voltage from the alternator. If there is any at all, theres your wine. Also, some alternators have an inherant whine you can hear when under a load. This sometimes would indicate a weak battery which is constantly loading the alternator. Also, most alternators make a roaring sound when the bearings are going out. If this is because of cheap electronics or big amps, a. o1pf ceramic disc cap will help installed at the positive terminal of the alternator. A 470 uf 18 volt electrolytic capacitor at the amp or stereo b+ and neg. (Note polarity) if this is the answer, there you go If not. bad diode trio/ alternator.

My in-laws bought a 2007 Ford Freestyle brand new with a Hydrostatic transmission. Made the car sound like it was amazing. And while it ran it was a great car. Last fall the engine light came on and I checked the code. Transmission issue. Took it to a mechanic, told them the code, and they wouldnt even pull it in the bay. Turns out they usually catastrophically fail and cost 5, 000 to 7, 000 to replace. I was so mad that the dealer sold my in-laws this car with the promise that the transmission was way better than a regular transmission and would last longer too when in reality Ive read they only get about 100, 000 good miles before they can fail. I also suspect they figured my in-laws were older folks who wouldnt put much mileage on a car when in reality they travel a ton. New cars are a pain in the.

Alternator whine could be through the electrical system too, as youd hear that noise come through the radio rather than a physical noise. However thats a different problem than the bearings, and either a filter condensor (capacitor) is going bad somewhere on power to the entertainment head unit, or the diode on the alternator itself is going bad. Still worth doing something about though, since other electronics in a car (like those that run the engine) could be affected if its the diode.

If you hear the whine coming THROUGH the radio speakers, then it is usually a diode or two that has gone bad inside the alternator. The job of the diode-racks in the alternator is to convert AC current to DC current. If a diode goes out, some AC current leaks into the electrical system. If the whine comes through the speakers, and it changes pitch when you step on the gas pedal, just replace the alternator. Not all whines are caused by bad bearings.

Hey Scotty, I bought an aftermarket car stereo, hooked up all the wires to make sure it was working properly and sure enough, it was. Everything powered on and I tested all the units features and they worked perfectly. However, soon after, something shorted out and now the unit blows a fuse whenever I try to power it on. Is this something that can be fixed? Is it possible that the units 12v battery cable is grounded internally, causing the unit to fail?

My car makes that annoying whining sound too. When I had the belt, belt tensioner and water pump changed, it went away for a couple of days, but came back. I also had the idler pulley changed but had to put it back because the belt kept slipping off if the new one. I wonder if its the alternator. The ac compressor is leaking too, so that could be another source of the noise? There are so many pulleys on the front of engines Lol

Worst about new cars 1. to many computers and electronic controls - they become problematic with time and can be extremely difficult to diagnose2. to much plastic used in the engine area - plastic exposed to heat cracks and cause expensive unnecessary repairs 3. to much interior electronics and displays - when they break ( and they will ) they are expensive parts and sometimes the dash has to be removed to gain access.

Scotty is fun to watch, but dont take everything he says as gospel. The reason that new auto trans units are sealed is because not allowing air into the trans means the fluid doesnt oxidize. BTW, manual gearboxes have been sealed for decades. His advice about changing auto trans fluid is also wrong, and if you do it while the car is under warranty, you will probably void the warranty. Sorry, Scotty, it just aint so.
