Oh, Scotty. I can understand you SO well. Youre just describing why I choose to be a technician. As a kid I used to take things apart to understand how they worked, I used to love that I enjoy working by myself, in silence, no people around, talking to myself. It make me feel complete I love the satisfaction of using logic and train my brain to understand why somethings happening and fixing it correctly I like inventing tools with the things I have around, if possible Started this tired of being ripped off by technicians that were just lying to me and couldnt fix anything I hardly trust most of the peopleMy only problem is when I receive too much work, my brain kind of explodes. I need to do one thing of a time, complete it, and then receive a new situation. Still dont know how to manage that.

Life lesson here. No matter what job you have, even sitting in a small cubicle, do the job with purpose and with an end result in mind. If you are not sure what that end result should be or how to do it (winging it) then you should focus on it being complete and right. The vision of the end result will form as you work on it. Second, learn to suffer lose well. Some jobs you dont make money on. But whatever you do dont cut corners to make up for it. Just do the right thing and learn lessons from it. We actually pay money to others to be taught how to do things. Look at jobs that lose you money as going to school. I paid good money to learn good lessons. This will keep you motivated and moving in the right direction. In the end you will prosper.

Scotty, I think this is one of your best videos of all time. I could really identify with the entire list of points you made. I was just telling a coworker the other day that office work has no beginning, & no end. It is always the same & is never finished. I have worked in mechanical repair & now I work in collision repair. I love watching the cars that come in all smashed up, leaving looking like they are brand new. It is a satisfying process. & being a female I was tired of being ripped of by some (not all) mechanic facilities because of my own ignorance of cars. So I decided I was going to learn & be able to make more informed decisions on my own vehicles repairs.

The problem with all the techs Ive seen and hired are that they dont take the personal time to learn. Many of the skills I learned with a lab scope were from spending hours on my own vehicles hooking things up and learning to use the tools. Even my expert friend dealer techs dont have a clue how to use the tools theyre given. They just see the same problems over and over and throw the same 3 or 4 repairs at each thing, even if it only actually has one problem. I only know two techs in town other than myself that I trust to bounce complex problems with

Great talk about individualism, independence and entrepreneurship, but for the love of god. saying you dont have to listen to anyone, EXCEPT YOUR WIFE. how the hell does that compute with what you said in the first 5, 5 minutes of the video? You dont have be married, or have a long term relationship to be a good mechanic. In fact, if you are great, independent and make a lot of money, women will naturally come to you, and then you can switch em out as you please. In car terms, think of it as upgrading to a better model whenever you feel like it.

If you are a great mechanic and live in vegas, you have to fight with the criminals to get a job. Dont waste your time trying to be an honest business man, once you wanted to be a mechanic, thats when your life is over unless you can do the scams. Theres no such thing as an honest mechanic. They are all scammers. Trust me, Im still broke after working on cars for 30 years. You wont make it if you dont scam the customers lol. Scotty doesnt scam, he just charges two legs and one arm and hes rich.

People like us who know how to fix things will always be employed. I have the knack as well but my father as a heavy diesel mechanic just reeked of diesel all the time. Even when he broke wind it would smell like diesel. So I went into electronics. The biggest automotive repair I ever did was a head gasket on a 2. 5L Aries. We are about the same age, I am 67, and have achieved a comfortable retirement because of having the knack. Keep up the good videos.

Ive been wrenching on cars since before I could drive as a hobby. Im 35 now. I could very well be a mechanic but sometimes when Im working on them I want to rip out all of my hair and take a sledgehammer to the doors and hood. Its very frustrating work sometimes. So I went into Cnc machining and am now a cnc programmer. Plus its too hot and humid here in Houston to be working in any non-Ac shop. Not that I havent done that before lol.

? Hey Scotty. All the fuel injected cars I have had all have an elaborate box coming off the air intake pipe that runs from the front of the engine to the air filter intake. I know why the pipe is there- to make sure the air being taken into the filer is cool air. But what does the bendy plastic box that comes off the side of this pipe do? I cant figure it out?
