Hi Scotty I went through this decision process with my 2004 Nissan Sentra 1. 8L. The car has been treated well and the engine is good and the vehicle looks nice since it sleeps in a carport. Unfortunately, I have only driven this car mostly on the western side of the island (Puerto Rico) and have not taken it on long highway trips. This means a lot of stop and go city traffic. The car during the 15 years only has 78, 000 miles. So, the car looks good and low millage made me think of repair rather than buy a new car. The problem is that the automatic transmission wont take reverse. The mechanic told me it is the clutch and that he would have to take down the trans. and replace all the parts so that essentially I would have new parts. Hes only going to charge me between 750-800 for the job. I figure, thats a good price and Im not getting into debt with a new or used car. I figure I can get a lot more millage and use from the car and if in the future I want to sell the car, I would get a better price with a car without engine or transmission problems. What do you think? I feel I made the right decision. Id like your opinion on this model car and if I made the right call. Thanks, I enjoy your videos.

i got 2004 silverado bought it 07 it was cheap and plain jane truck nothing fancy they sold it because it had 300. 000 thousand on it. it was company truck well maintained but i noticed when i was driving it none of the clusters was working no speed no oil pressure nothing ran good, so i bought it for 3. 000 cash. 3 year old with this many miles to me it was strange so i took home made an appointment at chevy dealership, they put it computer nothing come up got the paperwork and it said mileage 155. 000 so i went back in and ask he said the clusters go out in them trucks all the time, new one was 400. 00 i got lucky and found one on ebay for 100. 00. it took me about 10 minutes to change and they programed it at dealership today it got close to 300. 000 and still going with regular maintenance, so if you buy Chevy truck from 02 to 08 the cluster has been replaced and the miles is not correct, unless they had dealership reprogram it with the actual mileage you might get one that says 125. 000 miles and have over 2000. 00 miles i just got lucky

I drive an 8th gen Civic 2009. 199, 956 km and about to reach 200, 000. Never had any problems. Even when I slipped on black ice and hit a concrete barrier, I could find a bumper for less than 100 and a cousin whose friend had a paint shop willing to give me a discount on the labour. An advantage of buying a popular economy car is that parts are cheap and easy to find. The only thing that went out was the AC compressor, which seized at 185, 000 km. Its a stick shift, so no worries about Honda automatic transmissions, which is typically the weakest point on Hondas. I just bought a shorter belt (1. 657 metres vs 2. 189 metres) to bypass the compressor, which cost me 30. As you might have guessed from reading up to this point, I live in a cold, dark country where its not worth fixing the AC on a 10 year old car.

Surprised at so many Chrysler haters out there. Ive owned a 62 Dodge Polara, 64 Fury2, 3 K cars, a 92 voyager van, a 02 Concorde and a 300 the last 2 still running well. All high milers of 170-200 G + and relatively few repairs to tell of. When done with them theyre usually driven to the scrap yard for cash but few tears. Cheap transportation my friends. No payments, low repair costs and no need for collision insurance on those babies. The trick, keep the fluids fresh and drive it gently Admitted, the newer cars arent made like they were in the past, a pity that. But you can keep your Taliban Toyota Jap-scrap, Korean-krap and Jerry-cans. Ill go for the American road yachts any day. Better comfort and safety. Check out most taxis and cop cruisers on the road.

Scotty didnt mention that these transmissions go out most of the time due to the transmission fluid mixing with the antifreeze due to a crack that occurs inside the radiator its a huge issue on xterras from 2005 to 2010. My friend has a 2007 the transmission was replaced right before he bought it at 100, 000 miles its been working flawlessly except for a radiator hose that busted in the last 45, 000 miles he is now at 155, 000 miles and the engine works great and the transmission with normal fluid changes shifts like new. They are decent trucks once the radiator is replaced with one that cant crack.

Scotty, I always wonder. You say you are an honest mechanic and I believe you but as you stated many times before (as you did in this video) you say to get rid of it. What do you think happens. this car will be sold to the next noob. so you save someone from spending money on this endless money pit. but at the same time you advise the customer to get rid of it meaning selling it to the next victim or trading it in for a new car and guess what happens. another poor soul buys this money pit. So yes, you are honest but on the ohter hand. well, you know.

Hey scotty my dads car has an issue our mechanic cant figure out. His 2006 chev optra has no reverse lights, no blinkers, no headlights, no hazard lights, and no DRL lights. The mechanic checked the wires and it doesnt have shorts. I was wondering what the issue could be. It was working right up until a few days ago. Our mechanic wasnt able to find a wiring diagram for the vehicle. The only lights that work are the break lights. EDIT: Not sure if it makes any difference but it is a chev optra wagon.

Yeah, Ive realized over the years that rebuilding a tranny in a car with that many miles, puts additional strain on the engine, then the next thing you know, you need a new engine. And vice versa, replace a motor in car with higher mileage and the auto tranny(if original) wont be able to keep up and will go out sooner than later. I enjoy this channel, I agree with a lot Scotty says, and have learned a few things from him. Keep up the great work Many of us really appreciate you
