If it's available in your neck of the woods, one thing that legitimately will help is to get fuel that is ethanol free. You will likely pay a little more than you do for regular fuel but some stations have ethanol free at specific pumps. Like in my town there are two sources one has 87 octane ethanol free and it's about 0. 20 more expensive than regular 87 octane with ethanol in it. The other one actually has 90 octane ethanol free and compared to the regular 87 octane fuel it's about 0. 30 more. Usually if I stay with that gas I have no problems whatsoever and it actually seems to help my mileage a little bit but the ethanol free 87 octane I can't use all the time because it does cause a little bit of misfire. So usually what I do is I might use the 87 ethanol-free once or twice a week and the regular 87 a few times and then wrap it up to the 90 octane ethanol free. Usually do that in a cycle of a couple times each then switch and so on

Scotty, i want to know, do you really think that Toyota is much better than Mercedes? I live in germany, so nowadays here we know Toyota makes good cars, but there is still a feeling of having MORE quality in the german car than the japanese. And the quality issue in germany, would be seen as the car ages. Till the 7th year many japanese cars are up front, but if you look at the cars with 10years and older, then you would see that mostly the german manuf. are at the top of the game. So my question is, how you come to such an impression? I hope my english is not too bad. Love your work!

True Story here:
My friend went for an oil change in my local Toyota dealership with his 2016 Toyota Highlander (with about 50, 000 miles) and was recommended for a whopping 900 worth of repairs.
My friend immediately called me and asked my advice.
I told him car dealership service center try to up sell, defer all repairs and just get your oil change done.
I checked his car later and found that 80% of the recommended repairs were not required.
The only thing I told him to change from recommendation was to replace front and rear brake pads.

Scotty I need your help PLEASE! I live in Houston and have been gifted my parents 1999 Infiniti Q45T. It has a 115K miles was dealer maintained and was in immaculate condition until very recently when the check engine light came on and they decided to get a new car. I took it to the parts store to have them scan it. It comes back with random misfire. They recommend replacing the coil packs which are over 100 a piece and I need 8. It also needs new front struts which are 1000 each. Is the car worth saving or should I junk it?

Just wanna report in that we have a Honda HR-V and got 40 mpg on a trip from Dobb's Ferry, NY to Long Island. The car shows the mileage on every trip you take. It's not like the Prius that keeps averaging it out with previous trips. I drove the Honda at moderate speeds and this is not the first time this has happened. Our gen 2 Prius really doesn't get much better mileage than that. Years ago the Prius would get 58 mpg on the highway, but I think some of the cells might be weak. That's all I wanted to say. Go, Honda!

Hey Scotty I have a 2007 E92 BMW.
I've noticed I'm getting a fault code in regards to fuel mixture and I believe it's due to a small air hole in the intake just before the air box and MAF as one of the clips have been broken.
Is it safe to use duct tape in the engine bay temporarily to plug the gap and see if it fixes the issue?
My car has been running smooth and I have been regularly maintaining it over the past year, and I think it's just down to the rubber becoming brittle.
Take care!

The money you d have to spend in specialty tools and regular tools would be outrageous to do your own maintenance. Just go to Cliffords off 1960 in Humble, TX. My 2012 Honda Accord Coupe EXL V6 and Wife s 2014 Lexus IS 350 plus previous cars all worked on by Cliffords. Their gonna save you 200 to 300 on major service versus a dealership. No problems with any of our cars from BMW to Mercedes. They will never rip you off just go see Roy who runs the place he s amazing!

I have to stop You there, Scotty. I had before two Kia's, with no issues what soever, have them for over 140k miles. I even was crazy enough to make one turbocharge. With no problem at all, just a oil leak that was fix. Even now, I have a Subaru, but just got My third Kia. Kia's are as good as Toyotas, or hondas. Ya need to change your mind about Kia's, Cuz the coin always flip, and one day Toyotas Will be like Fiat
