Engine thing is they focused on making power rather than efficiency gains in the last 10 to 20 years. However the performance gains got cancelled out as they made the cars heavier, although they're supposedly safer due to that. That's why the change in fuel efficiency hasn't been all that impressive. If the current cars weighed the same as something from the 1980's, then you'd probably notice the change in what's been done with engines a lot more. Other than that, I get the point of the things being over-stressed compared to previous generations.
The electronic brake thing sucks though. It used to be you could nurse a car through traffic a bit if the hydraulic brakes went out for some reason, as you still had a reasonable amount of control with a hand-brake. (Basically to get it out of traffic, or even to a nearby repair shop) It's doubtful you could even try to do that with the electronic all-or-nothing brake. Really makes you dependent on a tow truck or ending up stuck like Chuck.

350 bucks for a Matrix evap canister? Try over 800 on the 2006 Rav 4. And this is a difficult junkyard find. Someone made a video about all the system fails on the. Rav 4 and noted that the electronic switch mounted ON the canister was the same as a Corolla. Off to the junkyard, found a Corolla, paid 5 bucks, took 30 minutes to drop the canister and change it, and told my son he just saved 845 bucks, not to mention the 400 bucks in labor cost. Agree on this one with Scotty. Electronic E-brakes are awful, and we remember the famous Toyota runaway sudden acceleration problems (of dubious blame to Toyota, since it couldn't be replicated. Spot on Mr. Kilmer, spot on.

I always use my parking brake to save wear on the transmission. Now I have to look forward to wearing out the electronic parking brake. I may sell my 2018 F-150 while it still has low mileage to get an older model without expensive tech I will have to replace. Carbon footprint of ever vehicle should include how much CO2 is released during it's manufacturing. Every time we replace a vehicle or part that's a big chunk of pollution to make it.

Engine are done, actually the ICE is done, and they don t come back, and they are so many examples in the History from Horse to Cars and I can go on on, the cars in the future will be Computer s on wheels and I can t change it. Electric cars in the moment, don t know there is more Hydrogen whatever they like to replace the ICE it will be interesting, how this will develop. Future is future can t stop it.

That is the worst electronic brakes design I've ever seen. If you check out a Siemens PDF on electronic brakes you'll see an ingenious design that saves tons of electricity and prevents early deterioration by using the cars own momentum against itself. The design is elegant and simple. This brake design by Fiat was like okay let's connect a power drill to the brake piston and also make the piston be a screw

OK, so electronic breaks have a reason for existing. The whole point is for the car to stop the car faster than you can in an emergency situation. The average person almost never uses the emergency brake so having the car stop itself makes more sense. Also as we get more and more self-driving features the car having control of the breaks is just a natural occurrence.

My personal peeve is placement of the electronic accessory plugs, in particular those directly over a cup holder or those inside vs. outside the center console. Further I'd like at least one (two is better) on top of the dashboard for my independent GPS (just as accurate as manufacturer units but WAAAAAAAY cheaper, and they include free updates.

Scotty, that bag of mulch looks lonely sitting there waiting to be used. Maybe you're waiting for a cool day or a day when you are not busy working on and making videos about cars. But we all know that's not happening. You are in Houston and you are, well, Scotty Kilmer. Next time your son visits, put him to work!

Modern cars can really be frustrating. There's hi-tech, and then there's why-tech. When I was young my friends and myself had hand me down cars from the 70s. They weren't anything special but they were easy to maintain and work on. As time goes on I value those old cars more and more.
