At 3: 20, writer doesn't specify mileage. If it is high mileage and getting bad mpg, he might try a complete tune up and also check exhaust flow. A lot of older cars that drove for years on regular gas and then were forced into using 10% ethanol have stopped up catalytic converters. My Suburban did this. It seems the ethanol starts cleaning years of built up carbon and that's what clogs the converter. The power will be down but if it happens gradually, you will hardly notice it. People probably talk smack about you because they're jealous. Screw em Take care, John

I always value experience over technical specs. The same stuff goes on with the wristwatch community. The snobs will say, Only Rolex while the ones with experience will say, I've actually had plenty of Japanese or off-brand watches that kept time as well or better than my Rolex and cost a fraction of the price. I tend to trust those guys more than the snobs. Just like I trust Scotty's 51 years experience. He hasn't just read about it or heard about it, HE'S SEEN IT AND DONE IT. And that means so much more.

I'm looking at a 2012 Fiat that has been converted to run with a Jatco CVT transmission. Currently it is in Houston where it was used as a boat during the hurricane after that it had a slight bit of damage. Now the current owner only wants 10, 000. He was telling me there is a lot of interest in the car so he tells me it's first come first serve so obviously I can't take it to a mechanic. I am wondering if I should rush to the bank and get a cashier's check for it?

Hello Scotty, love your work. A friend of mine just purchased a 1978 XJS V12. We live on an island in the Indian Ocean where parts for most cars are difficult to find, much less qualified mechanics to work on them. He recently rebuilt the engine on his Audi Allroad Turbo Diesel and gets parts from Poland. As a mechanic, would you bother? I think I know the answer. Incidentally, the roads here are not in the best shape.

The more popular you get Scotty, the more Crows will come out and start harping about it It's just human nature, [unfortunately] for some people to be jealous for every reason under the sun. I've been working on my own cars since I was 15, and now 45. You are definitely the Michael Jackson, Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, and Elvis Presley of the Mechanic world I hope you reach 5 MILLION

Hey Scotty just got a 78 nova, the owner sold it for less since he couldnt pay the mechanic for changing alternator battery spark plugs and belt it drove fine yesterday now today it starts fine doesnt turn off but when I go into drive and step on the gas it shuts off, before bought the headlights or night would drain the battery, not sure if that was fixed

Watching this from Japan. Yeah the brainwashing consumerism. It amazes me how people are easily tricked to the newer the cooler mentality. Most of my colleagues drive brand new cars that cost like 2 year of their salaries on a 5 years loan and they wonder why they're broke PS. 1: 05 Anyway but why Gordon Brown. LOL

I'm open-minded. Except Scotty goes nuts when Chrysler has a steering problem recall while ignoring an even bigger steering recall for Ford just three days ago. It's too bad that his grandfather's bias against Chrysler tainted Scotty when he was just a tyke, because it's made him irrational.
