Twice I've got new windshields from scammers walking the neighborhood looking for victims outside with their vehicles, then they walk by, look at your windshield, if they see even the smallest knick they put the sales pitch in full steam ahead, had me call my insurance company on the spot and basically lie about the size of the crack, I got a new windshield alright, but it was a cheap Chinese piece of garbage and needed to be replaced 2 years later, it was a windshield money pit. I should have learned the first time, now I take it to Safelite, they have great windshields.

My beater 98 civic got a singular crack that runs from the bottom to the top on the outer layer of glass this summer from washing the car on a very hot day. Chances are it's going to stay that way until I get rid of it in the next couple years.

So I guess its smart to ask the previous owner if the windshield has been replaced. Something people probably never think to ask. I wonder too, how many people have died because they have gone through a REPLACED windshield in an accident

In my experience, you normally don't have to worry about gravel from traffic traveling in the same direction as you. The only times my windshield got a big chip in it was from traffic coming the opposite way. The combined speed is why.

I had a SafeLite replacement on my 2008 Mazda. You could actually see the distortion in the glass where it curved towards the sides. The original glass was not distorted there.

My friend had a small Chevy S10 pick'em up. He put a nice 350 engine in it. He gave it the GAS and the windshield cracked straight across from one side to the other.

Any ideas on what to do about peppered glass from sand? When the sun hits it can be difficult to see. Probably only a new windshield.
