I have a 12 year old Civic with 158k miles. Its been great but one big problem. AC went out in about 7 years. Honda wanted almost 1k to replace the clutch and coil. Then said that then theyd be able to determine if compressor was ok. If not, that would be another 1k. I took it to a local mechanic in 2015. They wanted more than Honda to fix. My daughter is now driving it so I am trying to find a mechanic to fix it. Took it to a highly recommended garage who wont touch it. Said he cant guarantee whats wrong so wont do it. I dropped it off three days ago to the local mechanic I took it to in 2015. They kept it two days just to look at it after I told them the issue. He told me to call back today for the quote. I did. Receptionist said hed call me right back. They was almost two hours ago. Oh well. I know of 5 others personally whos AC went out in their civic. My Honda CR-V AC went out before 90k Miles. My friends 2003 Accords AC went out as well as his Acura SUV that was only 5 years old. I love the Hondas but not sure Id buy another due to their bad ACs. I wont pay 1k for a clutch from Honda when it could have a bad compressor too. I dont feel comfortable attempting it on my own.

Had a 1991 Honda CRX HF. It finally died as it ate a piston ring doing 90 MPH on interstate 71 in Georgia. after 689, 247 miles. The sad part is. I just changed the clutch for the first time on it not more than 200K miles before. Took it on vacation to Florida and on the way back, I was keeping up with traffic at 90MPH when I saw blue smoke. lots of it. Honda puts a lot of blue smoke in their car engines and if you see it, it is time for a new one. I sold that car to a used car dealer in Georgia and got 800 for it. the CRX HF transmissions are highly sought after. Had another Civic SI I bought new. drove it for 10 years. 489, 000 miles and traded it in. the dealer had it in their show room to show how Honda's last. They even put an Energizer Bunny on the roof.

I've owned, 4 cars and 3 trucks over the past 10 years by far my two best cars were the 2013 civic coupe lx and my 2011 civic si. Both got good gas mileage. In fall/ winter I could pull 38-40 mpg in summer 32-34 with the lx and si low thirties high twenties. 4 qt oil changes 80 tires and a 50-80 transmission drain and fill every 40k on the automatic. The car is like shopping at a high end store on goodwill pricing definitely a wallet friendly bargain. I just wish they made a truck with a frame and rear wheel drive like the Tacoma. They probably would make alot of noise in the real truck segment.

I have an electrical issue in my 99 Jeep XJ Sport. My ac went out, so I trouble shot my system to see what the deal was. I found that if I removed the relay and jumped power to make the ac clutch engage, the system worked great. I then tested my relay to see if it was bad, and it was. I got a new relay and before install I tested it and found it to be good. So I put it in, and the ac still doesnt work. Idk why but I think its a wiring problem. Is there something else I need to check that Im missing? Cant find a lot of info on this issue. Anything helps

Well the 2000-2004 Civic hybrids all have some form of transmission failure. I think they use that CVT transmission from Jatco. Just look at craigslist and you'll see at least a few Civic hybrids for 800 or less needing a new CVT transmission because they are a pain to change and cost a fortune to have a mechanic fix. I would avoid those 2004-2004 civic hybrids, the 2000-2005 accord V6, and the 2000-2005 Acura TL, and the 2000-2005 Honda Odyssey because I see them all the time on Craigslist needing new transmissions

I've had three main problems with my Hondas over the years that has led me to switch to Toyota. First, poor brake rotor life (frequent warping. Second, unreliable (excessive leaks) A/C compressors. Finally, poor body and frame rust protection. I agree that the engines are amazing. All my Hondas had over 250K miles and ran beautifully when I had to junk them because of frame rusting issues. I never had that issue with any of my Toyotas or my 27-year-old Volvo 240 Wagon which still gets regular use.

I have always just got tired of driving either brand a long time before they wore out. My Civic was a stick shift, and it got a little better than my Novas, which were auto trans and nothing but a cheap Corolla, and my Camrys, both V-6 with auto, would come close on a trip to the little 4 bangers. about 27-28 mpg. Of course when I sold the Civic to a guy I worked with, it immediately went from 30-35 mpg to 50. I know he wouldn't lie about something like that.

Honda is still having issues with engine oil dilution in their 1. 5 turbo 4 cylinder earth dreams engines. My 2013 honda accord with the 2. 4 naturally aspirated earth dreams engine has oil burning issues. :( But I put a little lucas pure synthetic oil stabilizer in and it seemed to solve the issue. Got it brand new and after 100, 000 miles, besides the oil consumption everything works perfectly. Okay I guess the front headlights are a little faded now.
