The thing about pollution when it comes to gas vs electric cars is that most of the pollution from an electric car comes from manufacturing the battery which is localized, meaning it doesn't go into the air. Mean while most of the pollution from a gas car comes from burning the gas through out it's lifetime, which goes into the air. The price to clean localized pollution (the dirt) is a drop in the bucket compared to the price of cleaning the air. Also, people can pack up and move away from localized pollution, but the whole world has to share the dirty air whether they helped create it or not.

Please Scotty, the next time you're in England, rent either a 2. 0L diesel Ford Mondeo Titanium X, or a Honda Civic 1. 6 Turbo Diesel hatchback and you'll be getting zippy comfortable rides and about 70 plus miles per gallon combined (averaged type of driving. Ask the renters if those diesel cars ever give them engine troubles. You'll get another perspective after that experience. It might be a bit of green eggs and ham though.

I love your videos Scotty. You remind me of my grandfather, he was a mechanic his whole life and served in the Korean war. He had a shop in a small town in my home state of Alabama, and everyone knew him locally he did work cheaper then anyone else because it was what he loved He was always able to find humor in anything and your laugh reminds me of his, thanks for that.

Been telling people for awhile now when looking at newer cars, Stay away from anything 4 cylinder with a turbo for this same reason These unrealistic mandates by the government will be making all these cars very unreliable and expensive, Case and point: government mandated diesel emissions standards completely ruined Diesel engines and reliability.

So, would it be fair to say that we've pretty much peaked how much efficiency we're ever going to get out of an ICE? What I don't understand are pickup owners who use the pickup for less than say, 20% of the time; wouldn't it be far less expensive to buy a car then rent a pickup for the times you really need one?

The Feds look at a statistic call CAFE or combined average fuel efficiency for a manufactures entire line of cars. That is why they are pushing electric subsidies to lower their fleet average. And as the other Scotty always told Capt Kirk I canna change the law of physics Capn

My clean non offensive comment: When the pandemic is over, Andrea Bocelli, the opera singer, will hire Scotty to conduct the Italian orchestra outside a non descript house of worship to throngs of fans (Scotty not Bocelli)

Most states don't have the problems CA has, but the other 49 states are supposed to fall in line? I don't think so. My 99 Saturn SL2 got 42 MPG highway. You don't need new technology, you just need to be smart with your design.

I have a 2018 Suzuki Alto 800. The most complex system that it has is the ABS system and it gets 37-63mpg, the clue: 0. 718 tons curb weight and 0. 8L engine. I have a Ford F250 and in same circumstances it gets 8-15 mpg.
