I got a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser brand new in early 2009 for 12, 800. Still drive it daily. As all cars it depreciated in value. As all cars even Toyota it had problems but my problem only cost 67 twice, lmao. The cam shaft sensor 67 went out twice in over 10 years time. I got a timing belt, water pump changed per maintenance schedule. I did however replace front wheel bearings and motor mounts then too. Overall a very cheap car to drive for over 10 years. I will say the safety test suck for the PT Cruiser. I am looking into buying myself another car next year. I was very interested in the 2018-2019 Toyota Camry because they actually finally got great safety measurements in all areas, but the transmission complaints on line are a lot. If Toyota fixes the transmission issue and warranties the transmission for 100, 000 miles or 10 years I'll buy it.

One of the hottest buys in the market is bargaining for a 2003-2004 GT model with kick-butt responsive Turbocharger, 5-speed manual or Auto-Stick automatic and ALL the toys. A very kick-butt sleeper of a ride can be purchased for 2-3k because people like Scotty trash talk them. Bought mine new in 2003, treated the turbocharger & engine to Mobile 1 synthetic oil/filter every 3k-4k miles and have never had drive train trouble at 130k miles/17 years. Top speed governed 132 mph & I'm on 1st set of replacement brakes. Planning to drive it another 130k miles and then let the grand kids fight over who inherits it. :) (Be haters if you want, but I'll continue to drive the smart money FUN cars)

My GF bought a PT Cruiser about 8 years ago with a stickshift transmission. So far, a fuel injector went bad and she bought it with bad shifter bushings. The only real shop service it's had was the timing belt kit. She got it from a lawyer. We fixed it all at home, it has 200, 000+ miles on it. THE ENDMoral of the story, NEVER buy a used car with more than 30, 000 miles on it and an automatic transmission. People think auto trannies work on magic principles as opposed to routine maintenance (so ignorant)Learn to drive a stick

So, you think only Toyota should make cars, Chrysler is an American Brand, do you have anything nice to say about them, I guess you are leasy to work on cars, even when you are mechanic, and you get lots of money by criticizing cars even when they'redomestic cars, in factories where American People get money to pay their bills (no just Chrysler, you think all the American Automotive Industry is crap, I see what is inside your brain. Your comments don't help to build or keep a self esteem of this GREAT COUNTRY.

I know someone who has a 08 pt cruiser They've had it a few years now they seem happy enough with it. It's like all second hand cars you get lucky or you don't. I bought a mazda last year for 500 and this guy says the only thing wrong with that is that it's a mazda. Lol it's still driving like a charm. No matter what you buy if the last owners abused the vehicle then it's not going to last pissing time.

I understand that anecdote doesnt trump statistics and experience but my first car was a PT cruiser with 90k miles on it and I put another 60k and never had to do a thing to it besides regular maintenance. No transmission issues, AC issues and the timing belt lasted up until I got rid of it at about 150k miles, which is impressive longevity in my book. I got lucky with my first car.

PT Cruisers are not all junk, I have 163K on mine and have not have had any transmission, AC, or computer problems. I did do frequent fluid and maintenance. Maybe some people do not take care of their cars. I may not have 51 years experience like you do (only 47) but I don't go around calling all Chryslers junk because some may have problems Even some Toyota's have problems.

Eh, I looked up locksmiths for keyless entry programming and they charge the same as a dealership: 600. Bought an Autel MaxiAP AP200 Bluetooth scanner that can allow me to program new keyless entries and it saved me money. Took 20 seconds to program and they work. I just need to replace the EVAP Vent Solenoid for the remote start to function again on my mom's Uplander.
