I Cant Believe I Said This About the Chevy Cobalt Stephen Dall: I was a Chevy driver since 1965, then I bought a new Chevy from the dealer in Davis, CA, within the first two weeks I got a flat tire on my new 2005 Chevy, Jacked it up, (have been changing tires on personal and Army vehicles for over 40 years) jacked the car up on the spot recommended by Chevrolet, As I pulled the tire off the jack folded up and nearly crushed my leg. Took it back to dealer 50 plus miles and they would not replace it from a car on hand, they claimed they would order one. called me to tell me it was in p, a 50 mile wasted trip. for two months I got run around. Talked to service department manager and it had nit even been ordered yet. I went to local wrecking yard and bought one from a big Chrysler. It fit in storage and worked perfectly. Traded my new Chevy in for a New Dodge, and have been driving Dodges, Rams and Jeeps even got a Hummer there for my grandson to get to work through the floods. These Chrysler products are a1000% better than the Plymouths I bought in 70s.

I knew this was coming lol. I have a 06 cobalt and bought it at 143k. So far almost 2 years later I have 181k and the dealership misdiagnosed it for having a bad TCM. and I had the warranty cover it. Now the downside is yeah I paid 5k for the car and I sort of beat the heck out of it. It's a slowwwww car. The dealership forgot I have a torque converter and overfilled my tranny by 6 quarts. Engine still runs fine and burns some oil but hey, it's my first car. My next car is going to be a MR2 Spyder hands down. It's just me and I would love to have one. I named my cobalt Colbert or the Slowbalt. I have a ford license plate decal on the front just to joke around, it's now a Chevrolord. I've done just about all the repairs on it myself. It really just needs ball joints but I don't have the money to have someone do it for me since they are factory rivets.

I just blew up a 2007 Saturn Ion at 222k km's (basically a Cobalt) I treated it like crap and it ran like a champ till the day it blew, 55k km's for 2000. ca as a delivery car. I just got a Pontiac G5 coupe, that is very similar but just seems much better built (than the Cobalts or Ion's) 88k km's on it and about as mint as you can expect for 4000. ca lol wish me luck. Goal is to pay it off by the time it hits 100k km's so I can get the majority of my back. I think the Ion would have held up if I had treated it better or put a new timing kit in it when the chain started to to tick 15k km's ago (thought it was a sticky valve) Cheers to you Scotty, thanks for all the help over the years

I owned a 2007 Chevy Cobalt with manual transmission and sold it running and driving with 255K on it. I did do mostly highway. I changed the brakes ONCE in all those miles. The original CLUTCH was NEVER changed My coworkers never believe it when I tell them about it. The only repairs I ever did was A crankshaft positioning sensor and o2 sensor. I changed the turn signal arm and shocks/struts end links. Heck I never had to change the battery either. I owned it for 6 plus years and sold it in excellent running driving condition. Everything was working on it too. I guess the highway miles did the trick?

Cobalt sticks will last 150k+ miles; the automatic's TCM computer is a fairly common fail point although GM didn't help by painting most of the electrical grounds. Frame and brake line rustproofing is stellar, even in the salt belt, although the fuel and vapor lines tend to rot. The ecotec engine is perfect if ricers don't touch it. Just like the cavalier the whole suspension and steering is sub-par, especially on the LS (which must stand for Low Standards because everything breaks on them.

My Aunt purchased a 1992 Saturn 4 door, 5 speed used it as an everyday driver, parking it outside in the elements of Baltimore county for 25 years and ran good all the way until the day it was rear ended big time by a truck in a parking lot. If the insurance company didn't total it out, it would still be running today, it leak a little bit of oil, but never burned it, that was most likely one of the last of the good GM cars ever made.

Take all the spark plugs out the old car and fill each cylinder with the thinnest synthetic Castrol oil and let it sit a couple days before you start the car. Then with the plugs out turn the car over to push all the oil out. If you don't do this before you start the car you'll kill your rings they most likely froze to the cylinder wall from the time left sitting, itll run if you don't but most likely will smoke more

5: 22 I've bought cars that were part of a warehouse collection which had sat for 5 or 7 seven years inside a building without being driven. On cars intended for my wife I'd fix obvious things then daily-drive the car for two-months before turning it over to my wife. In cases I didn't do that I'd get calls from a stranded wife as well as incur negative feeling towards the car on her part for a long time.

Scotty, picked up an 2007 HHR from coparts for 750, with only 122000 miles. The nut was loose on the harmonic balancer and let the pully slide out pushing the alternator belt off. I torqued the nut, put the belt back on and aired one tire up and drove it home and have been driving it every day since. hahaha got lucky big time. Everything works on the car as well, even the A/C

It doesn't hold up over time. Tell that to my brother Ed, who has owned his 2005 Cobalt since new and has 230K miles. He's replaced the EGR and catalytic converter and that's all. Or my youngest son, who has replaced the wheel cylinders. . He bought it from my middle son, who replaced the heater fan and I helped him replace the wheel bearings. It has just under 200K miles.
