I can kind of get behind surprise engagement videos, but only if they aren't ridiculously over the top and they aren't REALLY a surprise.
The only surprise in a marriage proposal should be the exact how and when. There are clearly too many couples that haven't really discussed this or aren't in the same place as each other.
I know that my boyfriend and I will get engaged one day. I know that he wants to be the one to ask me. But he knows I want to be divorced first (we have been separated a long time but haven't finished the official process) and I want to be in a financially stable enough position that we can get engaged and set a date within a year or two and then get married, instead of getting engaged and just hoping we can one day afford to get married, not that I wasn't an expensive wedding, but even a cheap wedding is costly.
We understand each other, we agree, we communicate and if one day a few years from now he proposes to me in public I wouldn't hate it because I know that the driving force is mutual respect and communication.
With these surprise videos I always have a hesitation because I don't know if they have communicated this or if this is a genuine surprise.
Intentions aside, these surprise proposals can be really manipulative. You get them in public with people watching, maybe their family and there has been a spectacle and it probably costs money and. do they really want to say yes, or do they just feel guilty?

The only surprise videos I like watching are pregnancy and soldier coming home videos. When did college acceptance videos become a thing? I just remember being super elated finding out my acceptances then going upstairs to tell my parents and then them being so happy. That's a memory I cherish, and don't really need the attention of hundreds or thousands of people for. But that's just me. I even remember my friend being accepted into Harvard and this was when we were in a classroom after school doing some lab work and were just like, Holy frick, congrats! I think that was pretty cool experience too. This was all back in 2012 btw.

I like the ones that were secretly taken or with family. Dont do a flash mob or hire anyone lol. I disagree with the whole this shows being wanted by a man is out only achievement or whatever. Did you not just show soldiers and college acceptances? Lol. Everyone knows theres tons of small and big surprises in life that dont need to be recorded. But if you wanna record a nice and important surprise and film a reaction and share it with people. Who cares lol

This is even more interesting with the recent news that many of those viral college acceptance videos (including, I think, the Harvard one in this video) were created by a private school in Louisiana that falsified students' information to get them into those schools (along with other unscrupulous things like hiring teachers without certifications, administering corporal punishment, and teaching all their classes in a warehouse without walls inside to divide the classes.

I hate public proposals. They really put women on the spot and men have been said no to which is enbarassing for both parties. Men should really ask women if they could even want to marry or see spending their life's with them. Some people see others because they just don't like being alone not because they love that person or want to spend their lives with them.

The videos with animals makes me happy. It is not about control or that we done something. The proposal videos are cringe and I avoid them, but this video is way off as well. Nobody looks at those to feel important. Nobody thinks that women is only worth if she gets married or that soldiers are coming from a horrible war. It is really not that deep.

Well though it might be true in many cases, there is also the possibility that they know each other well enough. To know the other person wouldn't mind, and to know the other person is ready.
And some people are comfortable in crowds and not at all camera shy.
I guess if all that come together, cannot complain.

some women have already talked to their SOs about wanting a surprise proposal. Like they have already talked about it in general, but want the guy to come up with a romantic way to deliver the proposal. Those who haven't deserve the rejection.

I don't necessarily dislike surprise proposal videos since I've found some intimate proposal videos before and they were lovely. Generally, these elaborately orchestrated surprise proposal videos make me cringe.

Making a proposal video is like those guys in high school who will publicly ask a girl out only to be broken up with a few hours later in private because she didn't want to humiliate him in front of everyone.
