Sorry guys, Valentines Day isnt going anywhere as long as it makes money and holy hell it does. In Japanwhere it it has no cultural tradition and was virtually unheard of a generation agowomen spend on average around 40 just on chocolate. What if they single? No problem, statistically single women spend more on themselves than couples do anyway. Thats 2. 4 billion dollars in chocolates alone. And they do it all over again on March 14, a holiday quite literally fabricated out of thin air by a Marshmallow company. Next time you spend too much on anime and video games you can rest at ease that theyre spending absurd amounts on our cultural exports as well.

The idea of lupercalia being the precursor WOULD be a good guess except that looking back into history, valentine's day NEVER displayed any of the typical trappings that we see today until after the romantic movement began over a millennium after it started. There's just way too much time between the halting of lupercalia and the romantic elements of valentine's day. It's MUCH more likely that the legend of valentine's resonated well with the romantics and they adopted the tales and embellished it in accordance to their own personal ideals.

Thank you People need to chill out and let people like things. If you don't like Valentine's Day nobody's forcing you. Move on. But some of us do. And every time I hear I don't need a special day to say I love someone - YOU ARE CORRECT But sometimes it's nice to HAVE a special day to do that. Just like we don't ignore people 364 days a year except for their birthday, or give to charity only around Christmas. Do it whenever the F you want. And leave everyone else alone to do what THEY want.

Hmm I work 60-80 hours a week. So I decided my wife and I would just go eat out at this hole in the wall Korean Restaurant. Spent 45. Went to Walmart and we each took turns alone on the card aisle grabbing a card and then met up exchanged cards got a laugh and put it back on the shelf haha. P. S. I did buy a single rose, trimmed it up, and stuck it in the mailbox. We were just as happy. It was fun.

I am happily married and did celebrate our dating anniversary on Feb 13th (such an unfortunate anniversary day I know. Love your people 365 days a year. Dont waste a bunch of money on useless shit. I took my husband to the airport, worked and played Sims 4 on Vday. Wouldnt change a thing.

I feel as though people shouldn't need a date that they are obligated to spend time, money and affection on their partner. My boyfriend and I dont celebrate it, we actually didn't see each other this year due to me being out of town. I would much rather someone show their love often, and at random times, not just on a specific date because they have to.

This year was the first year I've been in a relationship and didn't do a dang thing for Valentine's Day. But in fairness, it wasn't for lack of interest in celebrating with my hubs. It was because our progeny decided to be born the week prior, and you try doing anything resembling Valentine's Day with a week-old infant hanging from your teat.
