Why It Matters That US Cuba Relations Are Tense Again and How It Happened. Monki D Luffi: So according to the U. S Cuba has at its peak around 800 arbitrary arrests per month, so this is whats driving their care for human rights? Oh wait no, its because so much money goes to the Cuban military. but lets ignore the fact that immense amount of the Cuban population works for the military (source: I grew up in Cuba. So the country with the highest incarceration rate in the world and the country that separates children from their families and then places them in cages to torture them for political gains, thats the same country thats bringing sanctions against Cuba over the excuse of human right abuse? For gods sakes LGBT people are better off in Havana than Alabama. This has nothing to do with human right abuses, this has nothing to do with Venezuela, this has all to do with power. The U. S seeks and wants Cuba to become another Puerto Rico and wont stop anywhere short of that fact. But hey Nevermind the fact that a death toll of 11 people from a hurricane in Cuba is an outrageous amount for my countrys standards. 3057 deaths? (Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico) thats a disgusting display of negligence and criminal at that when it comes to the very preventable deaths of your own citizens. I dont disregard that Cuba has a lot to work through but so does every god damn country specially poor nations the size of Cuba. The biggest human right abuse against Cuba is the embargo itself and every piece of legislation that reinforces it. Cuba will continue to align itself with Venezuela, Russia and China (and lets not forget CANADA) because none of those god damn countries tried to invade the Cuba, take down civilian planes, bomb hotels or plot multiple assassination attempts like the CIA did. The CIA is a terrorist organization as far as Cuba is concerned. But hey, the U. S has the audacity to impose an embargo on Cuba because Cuba is too careful to align themselves with the most antagonistic force they have ever faced in the history of that nation. Lets bring the people of Cuba to the point of starvation, because that will fix things, that will make it all better, just like children dying in ICE custody today. In the end it will be all worth while. U. S. A, U. S. A, U. S. A, you do you hun.

SORRY for my shitty english and i mean no disrespect but u guys should stop and think very careful when making this type of content trying to justify the economic embargo, why, because u dont know what you are talking about. i am not communist after livin 21 year in the island and the embargo is to force the castro to change the social system of the island when is the people the suffer. I AM CUBAN, and yes WE ARE EVERYWHERE. 2016 fly to russia seeking economical improvement so i can help my family, like ten of fousens of cubans every year. i tell you more the embargo goes even further and help the castros because has been used as a justification for the shitty situation in the island since the USSR FALL in the 90. we have a saying in cuba there isn't a evil the last 100 years and no body the endures it, we are at almost 60 but we are getting there. For real tho u are american u cant make this commentaries about the embargo and treated like is a choice for, hmm EMBARGO YES OR NO. go to la habana and see every worker stealing from his job to feed his family see the children put to sleep early so they don't feel the hunger past dinner and young girls selling them self to tourist for a money, i understand if u dont live it but don't undersell other people suffer. I make this commentary hoping the you see the history is not only flashy news or some shit actually people live and suffer from it. Thats all, i expect nothing from u over privileged american prick and that i do mean it

Obama realized that the Cold War (even though US claims it ended, which as we can see it has not due to the whole Russia, McCarthyism and now China issues) was still going on. Instead of having to bomb or completely destroy a country 90 miles from the USA (as he did in Libya or Syria) he decided to be more tolerant with the Cubans. While also noticing that it would benefit the USA to trade medicine, medical expertise (since the Cubans have excellent medicine + science programs, and also help with diplomatic relationships so close to home. The Cuban government showed that they wouldn't bend the knee for years. They still aren't going to bend now. At the end of the day, Obama tried a nicer approach to bring capitalism and democratic-republic system to a country where people are fine with living under the Communist party and the national assembly. Trump is now just going back to how it used to be, all in hopes to bring a more capitalist and democratic system to Cuba. I've visited Cuba recently. People are happy, the only major complaint are the long lines to get an ice cream on a hot day or the supermarket lines sometimes. Besides that, I suppose another complain they how now is the internet being slow and only available in very few places.

A couple errors I see in this video: -Fidel Castros revolution was not inherently communist at all. Castro originally fled to Mexico to avoid persecution by Batistas regime after criticizing his government. It was then when he met with radical Marxist Che Guevara that he plotted a Democratic revolution to overthrow the regime. As Eisenhower was reluctant to provide aid to an unstable Cuba, Castro grew impatient and sided himself with the Soviet Union for his own political advantage. - The Cuban government has displayed more than just support for Maduros regime. After the collapse of the USSR, the government alongside the Venezuelan military have been consistently suspected of gaining their revenue from narco-trafficking with questionable ties to cartels such as the one operating in Sinaloa. Its also noted that Cubas government has been stripping Venezuela of its oil reserves due to a rise in Cubas exports in crude oil coming from a state that has roughly any reserves. End of the story, dont always believe what these regimes tell you, there is more to it.

One thing that people miss is that the before Castro's revolution there was many American businesses supported by an American supported corrupt dictatorship which took advantage of the Cuban people. This is what led to Castro's revolution, as communist revolutions don't gain traction unless there is enormous economic problems. After Castro seized power he was immensely popular with the Cuban population after he exiled all of the extremely rich business owners who I mentioned before. The American government did not want Castro in charge of Cuba, so they gathered the Cuban exiles, armed them, gave them CIA military training and gave them passage to Cuba. Both the exiles and the American government believed that Castro's communist government would be abhorred and that the people would rally around the returned exiles. Instead the event known as the bay of pigs occurred, where the people supported Castro and the exiles were defeated. As a result of this incident Castro was very wary of further American intervention and turned to the USSR for support.

I'm torn on this issue. On one hand do we really want to cozy up to and relax restrictions against a communist country who's had a family of dictators in charge for the last 60 years? This is the same criticism Trump gets for talking to North Korea. So why is it okay for Obama to open up to Cuba, but not trump to North Korea? They're both dictators of communist countries. On the other hand, if isolation and embargoes aren't working, a different strategy should be employed. I'd like to see relations with Cuba improve, since they are a regional neighbor and both countries could benefit a lot from a tourism industry there. But I keep coming back to the first issue. Who are we if we cozy up to dictators just because they govern a nice country with great weather and goods?

Philip I'm Venezuelan living out of my country, you have no idea how difficult is to be kick out of your own country because the government doesn't provide you the essentials for living and if you raised your voice you can finished arrested or killed. That happened to Cuba and now to my country, it easy to have an opinion in your cozy living room but promoting business with Cuba you are only providing them with more funds to keep them in power of course we need to raise pressure to Cuba, they have intelligence agents in my country to prevent or kill everyone against the current government just look for Rafael Acosta Arevalo and you will have a proper idea. Please don't take so easy this subjects were innocent people have die fighting to recover freedom

I remember back when Obama did this everyone at home (Venezuela) basically lost hope that Obama would do anything to get Chavez out. The Chavista government is key in maintaining the Castros where they are, and the Castros are directly responsible with what is now happening in Venezuela (among many other factors. If I were to visit Cuba for a vacation, my family would kill me. even if that means they could visit me too. Herrero is 100% right. The Castros and Chavez basically became an unholy team of nasty nasty communism because of the US's insisting on isolating Cuba from the Western free market. In turn, Chavez used this to basically brainwash an entire generation of Venezuelans, mine included, with anti-US sentiment and toxic nationalism and xenophobia.

In the same video he said USA tried an asesination attemp in Cuba and later on he said there has been arbitrary detentions in Cuba. No shit Sherlock, do you really believe those detainies are genuine disidents? Don't you get that USA and other countries send spies and move politics in other countries to take advantage of them and those goverments know that and detain them? The exact same thing is happening in Venezuela and dumb uninformed and uneducated people believe everything is shoved through their eyes and ears just because they are scared sheep conditioned to believe everything. Yeah, USA is the saint country, the light of the world, it's heaven on earth. They would never manipulate or spy other poor countries for their advantage. NEVER.

I was born and raised in Santiago, Cuba until 2009. My country is a shithole. Years of Castro's dictatorship and brainwashing of the young masses have made the people sheepish to the regime even when they barely make ends meet. You can go to jail for years for critizicing the government, history books in schools are altered to their advantage, doctors and teachers get paid a mere 45 a month (or less, students 14-18 get an obligatory month of labor in the coffee field for a month each school year, hell you can do 5 years for killing a cow. People are so numb to this and afraid of speaking out they take it in the ass and smile and wave. Its great if you wanna vacation for a week, but to whoever lives there is a nigthmare
