I feel that El Salvador's situation is not something that can easily be deciding by the international community. It's true that an overly policed state can lead to corruption abuse of power and more, but you got to see it from the perspective of those with dead love ones. At kill rate of 6425/year that's 1 thousandth of of your entire population. The chances of something bad happening to your love ones are immense. If I was a citizen there, I would gladly give up some of my freedom for slightly more security. On the other side though, in the long run this kind of policed state will lead to something along the lines of a dictatorship. Lets assume that This president is a good one that he will not abuse the power no matter how much was given to him. What about the next one? Can we say for sure he won't run the government into a dictatorship? Thus it's very hard for even the people living there to decide. to maintain a balance of power, because the argument would be if we can't survive the short run, there is no long run to look forward to. In the end i feel best way forward is to let those who are affected the most( citizens of El Salvador) decide (aka. Vote. Whatever decision they make, they will have to live with good or bad.

As someone that saw all of the nominated movies o still don't think that parasites deserved best picture, best director yes, best original screenplay yes it was really imaginative, best picture I donth think so, 1917 did something that war movies haven't done in a lot of time, they stopped focusing on drama and emotionalism, to make a more intimate and realistic take on a war movie you literally feel that you are another soldier traveling alongside, the The Irishman was not an innovative picture it's just another Mafia Thrillea but the execution was perfect, so in my opinion this moss 2 movies deserved more the Oscar. And a friend of mine that is Koreaboo told me that parasites wasn't even the best South Korean movie that was realezas past year it's just the most popular one that turned out to be really good (I need to ask her for examples and find those movies to see them and make my own opinion)

That was the video of Nancy everyone was talking about? I'm sorry but that's not fake. It's true but nowhere near as bad as what Trump did. The entire time Trump wasn't being presidential. He alienated a big portion of Americans all the while giving awards away to make it look like he's a great man. If Trump actually wants people to think good of him then maybe he can be presidential for once and stop siphoning money from the Pentagon for his ridiculous wall, stop undercutting Medicare, stop creating conflicts and needlessly sending troops off to die, and actually work for the working class citizen instead of rubbing shoulders with the rich. And also stop dismantling pollution regulations. Smog is a very real thing that causes detrimental damage to a person. Letting corporations pollute more and not filtering waste because you don't believe in any such notion as pollution is crap

I haven't seen parasite yet but I'm pretty keen cause I've only heard good things however the fact it's won Oscars doesn't mean much to me, whether It did or not doesn't matter to me cause I'm still going to see it. Joker is probably one of my favourite movies of the past decade and I'm glad it won two oscars (that I'm aware of) as it impacted me greatly and I'm also slightly biased as I'm kind of a comic nerd and a HUGE fan of the Joker character including all his film iterations (aside from Leto. sorry) That being said that dudes reaction and points are understandable but I'm still just glad Joker was nominated for anything and nothing will take away how much I love that movie especially not the success of another film I'm interested in.

Joker was hands down my favourite film of the year, but that does not mean it was the best. I truly believe Hildur McImpossiblelastname knocked it out of the park with her amazing score and she deserves her Oscar, and Joaquin has been overdue an Oscar for 20 years, but this was definitely an incredible performance. I think it got the right awards, although I personally adored its cinematography too, but it didn't have much chance against 1917. I haven't seen Parasite yet because it hasn't been released here, but Bong Joon Ho is a fantastic director. And yeah, people like this are why I'm embarrassed to call Joker my favourite film of 2019. Such a good movie, loved by SO many assholes.

Parasite was a great movie but the kpop twitter accounts ruined what was supposed to be the parasite's crew moment by being more excited about their favorite groups reaction to a south korean movie winning than the fact that a foreign movie was so well written that it got recognition for being a good movie period and not a good foreign movie. There was no need to shadow the movie with another form of entertainment that has no relation other than the country they're from. Let the actual koreans be happy that a korean movie won and everyone else who watched the movie be happy that a good movie got the recognition it deserved.

yea but you avoided his entire point, phil. he was saying that no one had even heard of this movie. and yet it won. its like getting to the super bowl and one of the teams is a team that no one has seen play all season, then they just appear there to play in the championship. i dont think he got the message across clearly enough. he was clearly emotional about it, and let his emotions cloud his judgement. but his overall message rang true for me, and a lot of other people. the fact that no one really knew about this movie. and yet it won. kinda sus

My family and I are from El Salvador and President Bukele is an interesting figure in my country. He is combatting the rampant gangs violence in my country (and as Phil said in the video it seems to be effective. This is crazy tho. I get that the president wants to get this past to continue his campaign against violence but holy crap images of the lengthy dictatorships and military rule came up when the president walked in with heavily armed trained soldiers into the National Assembly.
