Even though he ran from the car murder isn't what happened it was involuntary vehicular manslaughter. I went to high school with a kid who was on painkillers that he got for his wisdom teeth and crashed in to an 85 year old man. It crushed the guy. He could barely live with himself and did not like talking about it. He did 12 months in county jail for involuntary vehicular manslaughter. The whole thing about it is INTENT. Accidents happen all the time even when dumb shit decisions are involved. Cops kill unarmed people all the time on accident and hardly ever face consequences. My cousin is a state trooper in Cali and he said I'd be surprised at how many officers can't wait for an excuse to discharge their weapon.

Honestly, I saw ad after ad after ad after ad after ad for Quibi before it came out. I didn't know it was a video streaming service. I never looked up anything about it because it just seemed like some generic new app targeting a demographic with interests other thany own. The ads were repetitive, and the ones I saw just kept saying Quibi over and over again. It wasn't until about a week after it dropped that I found out it had dropped and was a streaming service. Your comments about some of their shows got me more interested in Quibi than all of the ads of theirs I saw. I'm not surprised by its failure.

Just a reminder to everyone that accessing content that you are not able to watch is piracy. Whether it is through a paid VPN or an odd free website; it is still piracy. And like other ISP, NordVPN is required to keep all your traffic information and give it to the government if they kindly ask. And it is most likely easier to hack a VPN provider than an ISP. So using a VPN might actually compromise your security. The only real reason you would want to use a VPN (as an individual, not a company) is if you are using a public network and you're afraid some strange guy will steal your traffic.

If the reported number of deaths in China is accurate (which I doubt, but I don t think it s too far off maybe a margin of +10, 000 or so, but comparatively a lot less, they only make up 6% of the world total deaths. The U. S. makes up 30% of the world death total. That means that the U. S, which happens to be about 3 times SMALLER than China in population AND population density, is handlingCOVID-19 worse than the country where it originated. Utterly baffled that our shitty government (all branches included) are handling this so poorly. Kudos to the politicians fighting for the working man tho

Sorry, but if you go to a party during lockdown, get drunk and get in a car with a driver who is drunk, you're kind of asking for trouble. I don't wish death upon anyone, but if you take risks with other people's lives you do deserve the risk to your own life. And no, a birthday is not an excuse. There are people who have lost their loved ones directly due to complications from COVID19, and who couldn't attend their funerals to say goodbye because of the restrictions. If they can manage, you can wait to celebrate your birthday some other time.

Drunk driving is in my opinion something that should be severely punished. My GF and I are extremely lucky to be alive because of a drunk driver running a red light off of a freeway ramp. She has mild back pain and really bad knee pain. I on the other hand was on the side impacted twice, have extreme back pain. Muscle damage, nerve damage, and herniated disks. the drunk driver? slap on the wrist and was released two weeks after the accident. meanwhile i'm still in sever pain with everything i do including breathing.

Is there a precedent for drunk drivers getting murder charges? Isn't that the quintessential example of manslaughter? Like, when you explain what manslaughter is, a drunk driver is THE example you give. I'm not defending drunk driving. It's incredibly selfish and absolutely not acceptable, but if they try for murder charges then surely he'll get off since trying to prove he had intent to kill here is a bit silly? Manslaughter is a hefty crime, and that's surely what they should be gunning for here.

A big takeaway for me from this drunk driving story is actually how much drunk driving has gone DOWN in recent decades. When I was in high school, we did this huge awareness event called Every 15 Minutes, because in the US in the early 2000s, a teenager died due to drunk driving on average every 15 minutes. Not just any human, teen deaths alone added up to 1 per 15 minutes. The fact that drunk driving deaths counting all humans are now down to just over 1 per hour is incredible progress.

Drink driving sentences and consequences are clearly not enough of a deterrent. It should carry an immediate life sentence, regardless of whether somebody dies or not. If you are caught under the influence behind the wheel, your life is over. No second chances, no leniency. The fact that the rich can get bail is astounding. Here in the UK there would be no chance of bail, especially as he tried to leave the scene. He would be rotting in a cell.
