You're Not Hallucinating. That's Just Squid Skin

Octopuses and cuttlefish are masters of underwater camouflage, blending in seamlessly against a rock or coral. But squid have to hide in the open ocean, mimicking the subtle interplay of light, water, and waves. How do they do it? (And it is NOT OCTOPI)

I went deep sea fishing with my uncle and pops in Mexico once as a kid. We caught some squid, 600 yards of line. about an hour of reeling them in for me. They're very strong, very fast in the water. Watching it writhe around and change colors was mesmerizing and sad at the same time. almost as if you could see the squids panic in the colors and the shapes. A few hours later it was Calamari tacos. and it was delicious

NOw I'm no expert by any means, but to find out if the skin of the creature is the one doing the thinking for its self wouldn't it been easier to some how blind the squid temporary that is and let it swim next to different colored backgrounds

Humans are disgusting. Imagine if we randomly snipped parts of the human brain (while the person was alive) just to see what would happen? I mean, scientists did (and still do) just that, but it is horrific.

Refract light per their surroundings, mirrors - they are [ timepoint 2: 35] metabolizing light like chloroplasts? Evolutionary algae?

Hey there! I was wondering if we could have some more squiddy videos! These amazing creatures can apparently even fly through half the length of a soccer field

Octopi is a perfectly acceptable way of pluralizing octopus. So is octopodes. Don't get into reverse pedantry, Deep Look uploader people. It's not a great look lol

More close-ups of squid skin! This is so satisfying to watch.
Also, this is a fair chance to let squids live.
