Once a Spawn a Time: Horseshoe Crabs Mob the Beach

Dear Deep Look, that was a great video as you can tell by the responses n all these comments! I ve bn going to the same bch every spring during the full n new moon tides for over 15 years in NJ! I used to fish there but its impossible to do that during these spawns, so now l jst go w a couple close friends, to take in this spectacle n to help the exhausted, upside down n stranded Horseshoe crabs back to the water! Its very sad watching them struggle to flip themselves back over n eventually, due to exhaustion, lack of oxygen or moisture they die! I have another concern n lm hoping maybe someone can let me knw the answer! In the last 3 to 4 years we bn seeing more n more females covered in big barnacles n other nasty freeloading creatures, excuse my lack of proper names for these things, but sme are so encrusted in these things that their eyes are covered, their hinges arent moving right! Will it harm the horseshoe crabs if we remove sme of these things, is really what l wnt to knw? Its nver discused in any video or written discussion that l cn find! Any info would be greatly appreciated! We spend frm 6-10hrs a night helping these amazing creatures! If theres more we can do for them, we are all in! Thanks again!

My first thoughts when seeing many horseshoe crabs on the beach:
Don't you wanna take one of them? Actually wait, no. Take many! Make ARMOR!
I must have a caveman brain dude. You have to admit, these shells would make great armor plates, especially shoulder pads, right? What are they made of, chitin? I'm not actually gonna do it obviously, just wondering

I understand that a lot of videos people always say alien or in this case, otherworldly. These guys and many other alien looking things have lived on this planet far longer then humans have. WE are the aliens, the otherworldly creatures. Compared to the timeline of life on earth, WE are the new things running around.

Surf fishing secret (well. not anymore) I've chased & fished the full moon tides since chidlhood. With so many sea critters using the huge amount of water movement as spawning synchronization, the goblers of these eggs are always in higher numbers. Right on up the food chain. to me.

Probably the most surprising thing about these creatures is that in English they are called horseshoe crabs, since they are not crabs at all. In fact they are chelicerates, most closely related to arachnids, such as spiders and scorpions. Did you know that?

Sometimes I wonder if animals that are born in harsh conditions- like these horseshoe crabs, born on a time limit- evolved to be that way. The animals that had the harshest upbringing, after all, grow up to be the strongest, or something.

As someone who walks the beach after the orgy, I can say, the biggest cause of death is getting trapped on the beach and dying from dehydration. Over the course of 30 years I've probably tossed thousands of dying crabs back into the sea.

Horseshoe Crabs are so cool. And yet they're endangered thanks to us, for a variety of reasons, but mostly because we like to bleed them for the pharmaceutical industry.
