we will be having a closer look at 6 different products I got from Aliexpress. Aliexpress is famous for featuring the newest products/ICs when it comes to electronics but finding those can be a bit difficult. So I tried finding the hidden Gems not only electronics related but in general what I think could be useful. Let's get started! Thanks to JLCPCB for sponsoring this video. A couple of years ago, I wanted to replace a dim compact fluorescent bulb on the ceiling of my garage with a pair of LED shop lights, which together had a much lower power draw than the incandescent bulb the light socket was rated for. I actually looked for an adapter like the one you show here, because you could get them anywhere 40 years ago. I never found one, and I ended up removing the existing light socket and replacing it with an actual outlet in the ceiling.
I sold the house with that outlet and the LED lights installed, and the outlet wasn't even the worst of my sins (I temporarily routed the power cord over a metal hook and never fixed it) but it passed inspection without a problem.
When I built my new house, I included a detached workshop building. I hired licensed electricians to install the panel in that building, and they were required by code to install a light outside the door, a light inside the building, and one outlet. There, too, I had them install an outlet on the ceiling to accommodate plug-in LED shop lights. That, too, passed inspection, from an actual building inspector rather than just a home inspector.

With the EU GPSR (general product safety regulations) now in force you won't be able to buy dangerous Chinese goods any longer, More likely you might only be able to buy cheap Chinese goods online - it seems, for example, that most small UK busineses will no longer sell to the EU or NI as a result and that will no doubt spread to all non-EU small businesses as the word gets out. Bizarrely, even digital downloads are affected as they are notoriously dangerous (sarcasm.
Even selling used items within the EU could become impossible unless you can prove it was within the EU before November 2024, otherwise it will need a user manual, manufacturer's contact details etc. etc. Nightmare for eBay sellers for months or years until the EU understands the unit ended consequences of this legislation. (Or maybe it was an intended protectionist move. I guess many will ignore GPSR but risk having goods seized by customs - especially German customs who are especially zealous.
The new German packaging law will make it even harder to sell to German customers.

Those lamp sockets are illegal in many European countries, which is why you can’t buy them in EU countries.
They are a fire hazardnot only putting yourself in danger but also your neighbors if a fire breaks out.
There is a significant difference between AC and DC. Please do some research before making a video that might encourage people to buy something that could set their home on fire.
It doesn’t matter how much current they can handle; there are other safety standards they fail to meet. Moreover, using lamp sockets as plugs is illegal, and your insurance won’t cover any damages resulting from their use.

I use the electrical tape extensively. When it isn't dry in the tube. It's a actually very very useful. I fixed many frayed USB cables, power cables, use it for some of the the plugs in my (old) car. I dab some on, wrap some cello over it, massage it into shape, let it dry for 12 hours and hey presto! cable is isolated. And if sticks to the pvc quite firmly too. It's also a very good isolating glue. When i build usb or DB9 or DB25 cables, I fill up the body with this stuff and close the housing, makes for good IP65 and pull on cable resistance. You should retry this one.

I used the US equivalent of that light socket to outlet adapter for years in a room that was poorly lit by it's single recessed light socket that was missing it's diffuser cover. So with minimal and completely reversable modification, I hung a florescent shop light that was powered by a wall outlet plug and used the adapter to power the shop light from the socket above it. This lit the room up way better. Then when we moved out, I was able to restore the original lighting setup by just removing the shop light.

That relay board is much greater safety risk than this bulb to socket adapter, not only relay can also get hot with high currents (you should also test it for 16A for fair comparision) but also can arc, but most dangerous thing is that it won't disconnect something or random connect due to software issue hardware iaaue or even hack.
So such bulb adapter in comparision os much safer but not so fancy.

Pull the covers off the microscope, and check out the camera lens.
Many types have a screw-on lens, and but rotating it you change the focal length, and even the magnification.
I had one that was too close and too high magnification, but after rotating the lens out a couple of turns it reduced the magnification and changed the focal length to about 40mm which was perfect for a pcb microscope.

The problem with aliexpress multimeters is safety. A cat 3 rated fluke WILL be safe, one of these though could go wrong in any number of ways. The E27->Outlet adapter though is a fantastic idea I really wish would be done properly. I've got very few wall plugs but lots of multi-bulb fixtures, it'd be great if I could just steal one of the sockets with a phone charger to power an ESP up there.

I own one of those old bakelite E27 to dual EU socket adapter. But I also remember that the old folks said it should not be used because they often would overload the circuit and the wiring would set fire to the house.
I would think that the socket adapter is a very useful travel adapter since one could speculate that the E27 socket is much more common than the European wall socket

6: 40 two hunderd C Sound like gigowatt to me, great scott Don't be like most US dudes that forget the celsius is a scale and not an absolute thing by forgetting degree when saying or writing Plus C alone in SI units means Coulomb Thanks for the video, still lot of great stuffs I use a bunch of Kincony E16P for a while. Having replaceable relays and PoE is always a plus

The bulb to plug adapter is something I've used with Christmas lights. I remove a bulb from the porch light and plug the string into that fixture. It's already high up near a roofline and I can use the switch inside the house to turn them off and on. Once the holidays are over all I have to do is screw the bulb back in and everything is back to normal.

The problem with that miliohmmeter is that, even with calibration, it's still a 2-point measurement. So if when the clamps slightly corrode the calibration is already wrong. And worse, the accuracy depends, possibly strongly, on how well a sample is clamped. But nevertheless, if the accuracy is good enough it seems like a nice tool for home use

I got an Owon multimeter/oscilloscope like the one in the video, which costed more than 150. This one seems a lot better!
Wait. does anybody know if it's possible to install a custom firmware on these multimeters
The I/O part seems pretty similar.
Maybe they're just rebranded versions using the same internal board/MCU.

Light socket adapters have existed since the dawn of electricity in the US. It used to be there was only the light socket. And then there was a two-tiered system we're lighting was one price outlets for another. then there was the places with lack of outlets problem for a long time, so yeah it is interesting to see a modern take.

One thing I would NEVER EVER buy on AliEx is anything to do with household electric features. Chinese manufacturers are notorious for producing fake parts, using cheap substandard materials, cutting corners, and faking industry safety credentials. Buying such parts/devices put you and your house in serious safety hazard.

Don't use lighting circuits as power sockets. Lights dont take much power, and the cable size is calculated based upon assumptions about the maximum current, the maximum ambient temperature, and the environment of the cable (eg covered with insulation or not. If you exceed the design rating you may cause a fire.

Hah, oddly enough I just made a E27-adapter a few days ago!
Power had gone out in half of my apartment building but not in the basement and I wanted a cup of tea.
I knew I had a broken lightbulb and I also have a gas-soldering iron.
It worked as intended, I doubt I'll ever use it again though!

For the microscope, you can often try and rotate the tiny lens with pliers to change the focus. Mind you that this doesn't always work, it depends a bit on how well the lens is secured with glue, but so far I've always been able to adjust the focus on my Pi lenses that were also glued in place.

Interesting video. I was also looking for a simple solution to magnify small electronic parts, and after trying a few things, I finally settled on using my smartphone. A simple mount for a smartphone is probably the best solution for the difficult to reach places. It even comes with a light! =]

Light socket is actually good. We are often traveling to cotage where they dont have sockets on rooms. So we hooked it into light socket and than used another adapter to power the light bulb. But you must be avare that there is often 10A limit and dont plug high power apliances!
