40 Fascinating And Interesting Historical Photos You Must See! Hylia: The photo of Grace Kelly and Frank Sinatra is NOT from 1956. That's a production still from MGM's 'High Society', which came out in 1954. Therefore, the photograph is from 1953 or 1954. The film is a remake of the 1940 adaptation of the play 'The Philadelphia Story', starring Katharine Hepburn [both onstage and in the 1940 film] in the role Grace Kelly plays here--a role which was specifically written for Ms. Hepburn. Further, in this remake, Grace Kelly wore her own engagement ring from Prince Ranier of Monaco, who she married not long after production wrapped. (For those interested, Sinatra is playing a role that, in the 1940 film, earned James Stewart his only Academy Award)

Fun fact about litvyak: she was actually called the white rose of Stalingrad, not lily, and what happened is that she painted a lily on her plane but nobody knew their flowers so they thought it was a rose and called her white rose of Stalingrad

At time 3: 40 - as 3 people pose for a photo whilst wearing face masks during the second wave of the Spanish Flu in California, in 1918. How many waves were there, until the Spanish flu was all out of waves and gone in 1929? Was there 70.

These are awesome nostalgia. The only thing better would be being back in my parents house with the shag carpet, the window AC, the tube TV with an episode of night Stalker or The Bell from Hell, and the smell of Jiffy-Pop in the air.

At 7: 36 I knew one of these days I would find my brother in laws' grandfather on one of these Rare History episodes. Great man to hang around with and watch football. Monday Night Football at his place was always a grand affair.
reply

Man, the LA Riots. Back when you could defend yourself and your things without the law going after you.
Now look what happens, the rioters get off scot free and the defenders get slandered and their lives torn apart.

2: 00. I read about her recently. A low scoring ace with several assisted kills who was shot down and died. Basically propaganda. I could do what she did with a day of training.

Hold. The. Hell. On.
Were considering 1994 historical now? Oh lawd.
I never care about my age. Then I see stuff like 1994 is historic and I start to question myself.

3: 37 I wish that was the mentality with this current pandemic we're in. Wear a mask or go to jail. Nowadays I think the sign is vastly edited to wear a mask or drop dead
reply

3: 44, wear a mask or go to jail in California during the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic. So masks aren't about freedom? They're about survival you say! LOL
reply

I wish someone would make a t-shirt of the wear a mask or go to jail picture. I would buy several and wear them everyday to piss off anti-maskers, and anti-vaxxers.
reply

I found more pictures about masks during the spanish flu. It talked about civic patriotism being a driving force to keep yourself and your neighbors safe.

The bad part of this is that my inner me protests loudly that the 1960's, 70's and so on is Not. Historical! It happened only a few years ago.

The photo of Mussolini brings to mind the old observation that everything in history happens twice: the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce.

Line from a Brigitte bardot movie: nasty old woman says to her love is a
disease to which bardot replies don't worry, I'm sure you're immune

reply

0: 05 That doesn't look like Brigitte Bardot, and she's definitely not dancing. 5: 52 45 ton? More like 25 ton. Nice collection!
