Medieval Armenia & The City of 1001 Churches Mikayel: All I know is that most Turks and Turkish government do not recognise any of those claims history is history what happened in 1200s shouldn't dictate 2020 no Turk should feel guilty but, there is a big BUT Turkish government should recognise facts as facts history as history, and stop labelling ancient Hellenic, Roman Armenian ext. sights as Turkish cuz they quite frankly are not Turkish they are historically Armenian Greek or Roman, recognise that those lands were stolen by Central Asians from native people and stop demolishing more of the Armenian history in eastern Anatolia finally cooperate with it's bordering nations to live in peace for 1st time in 1000 years THATS ALL WE ASK IT AINT THAT HARD
its no different from the American situation as white people in America no one should feel guilty from what their grand dads did but they should recognise it and work on making sure everyone lives peacefully and that stuff like that never will happen again

The city of ani is only 2hours away from Yerevan (armenian capital) but the borders are closed between armenia and turkey so for us to visit it we have to go to Istanbul and take another plane to kars and then drive 1hour to the border, this beautiful UNESCO heritage site is forgotten by the turkish government because it doesn't bring tourists like agia sophia and Ephesus it would have been so much better if it was under armenian control, people would visited along with all the amazing heritage sites in armenia, what a disgrace.

Gagik II was a child, 14 years old. The speaker speaks GARBAGE!
the truth is:
When the Armenian sparapet, Vahram Pahlavuni, prepared the coronation of the successor to Hovhannes-Smbat, the king's nephew, Gagik II, who at that time was only fourteen years old, the Byzantine emperor began supporting vestes Sargis Haykazn, a pro-Byzantine Armenian prince and minister of the former king, who had initially been appointed regent.

Everyone wanted a piece of our Beautiful Land, thriving culture and our undying devotion to our independence our identity. They will take and strip everything from our hands but the very essence of who we were and thousands of years later who weve become.
For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia

Thank you from and American Armenian! I love our history and culture, truly unique and ancient. So humbling to learn about. One I will return back to my ancestral lands to visit and learn about the beautiful culture. I love the language, does anyone know of any good resources to learn from the bottom up?

A unique video by a non Armenian, something rarely attempted, so well done. My only critique is the pronunciation of Gagik as Gajik. In Armenian the g is pronounced the same, so as it is pronounced at the beginning so in the middle of the same. Basically the English word Gag then add eek = Gagik.

Armenias biggest tragedy has always been its geographical position. Always stuck between two powerful stones. Yet we survived still having a country to this day. If thats not resilience at its greatest then I dont know what is.

Fall of Ani irreversibly changed the entire region and beyond. Tribes, whose main concern was finding pastures for their herds, gained access to ruling over highly advanced societies and brought them to misery.

Ani is not forgatten. In fact it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage in 2016. Recently many people visit this city every year. Finally it will be restored but probably will take a long time.

I feel like Byzantines put all the pieces in motion for Ani and Armenian destruction. All for selfish greed and power. I have always thought this. We dont want any outside meddling!

I am so glad I discovered this video! I was looking for this information about Ani's history! It did not show this video in my search. Your videos are precious. Thank you.

Please make more videos on Armenia. Go back a few thousand years. Some scholars say the Hittites spoke Armenian in turn were of Armenian stock. The Mitanni, Phrygians.

To Add. you ought to come visit Armenia one day! Itll be impossible
to satiate your appetite of curiosity.

It is so sad, that you can see Ani across the border. It is next to us, and also impossible to reach.
Great video.
Greetings from Armenia

Very interesting and informative but please get the pronunciation of names correct. The King's name was Gagik and pronounced gagk not gajik.

History Time, do you know the name of the song that plays in the background in the end? The one with the woman singing around 07: 40?

Imagine if Byzantine considered striking a treaty and alliance with Bagratids and use Armenia as its stronghold against the Seljuks.

I can see us rebuilding our Ani. We have more than enough historical documents to reconstruct it in its original form

My Son is Armenian, from his Mom. He is only eight years old and his faith in God is greater that most adults.
