Native Welsh Lives Matter! Even though I am white, I have experienced racism and discrimination from the English all my life. Wales is England's last remaining colony. All other colonies have been granted their independence years ago. Unfortunately, we haven't. 1, 000 years since the invasion. That's a whole lot of years of oppression, murder and the attempted genocide of our language and culture. But we're still here, just. We urge all ex-colonials, to help us drive the English out. Sadly, the quaint old castles you see in Wales were English military bases from which troops would ride out and massacre the native Welsh. They were places where our ancestors were tortured, too.

NORMAND NOT NORMAN. The word Normand became Norman in english because D is unpronouced in french, so acculturate people think Norman means North man (scandinavian) so this is just a rubbish. The Normands has nothing with Scandinavians, just look at there names, language, art, culture and architecture. They were french, mix of bretons and franks. At that time the nomands were the most powerful and civilised people of Europe.

One of my great uncles sons Stephen Henry married Williams daughter Adela. So I'm related to to Stephen King of England and Rollo the Viking (through marriage. Pretty cool. 6th great grandfather Edward Stephens who built Chavenage Manor. Ancestors were all dukes, counts, or MPs till we decided to migrate to America then the family grew large and spread. Probably why we aren't royalty anymore! LMAO

William was a twat. a lucky twat but nonetheless a twat. when Harold was ship wrecked he was a guest (prisoner) of William's. William gathered all the holy relics he could and forced Harold to swear not to take the throne of England. If Harold would have waited after the march back from Stamford bridge he would have had a much larger force and destroyed William with ease. as I said a lucky Twat

Good video, but calling WIlliam and Harold one time allies is a bit off the mark.
Harold was held under duress, he would certainly have met a 'mysterious death, 100% nothing to do with being poisoned' whilst being 'made guest' in Normandy, had he not sworn his allegiance. And even then the Duke made him do so on a table that unbeknownst to Harold contained Holy Relics beneath it.

For all history falsifiers and feverish francophobics: not once is the word Norman inscribed on the Bayeux tapestry, the French word yes several times, the English word yes, and the BT is a special order from William the Conqueror.

This video fails to explain why Rollo convert to christianity. Its Becoz vikings couldnt sack paris (defended by Odo of France from 885 to 886) and chartres (defended by Robert 1 of france in 911) but the french couldnt expel them either (the french did manage to defeat them. There was a stalemate. Thus the french proposed a deal and the vikings took it. Win-win.

No offense, I gather you are from England; but the battle of Hastings was not one of the most decisive moments in history. It was a typical squabble between small to medium kingdoms in an overall backward and decrepit continent going through a very dark period. The real historic and decisive events were happening in the Middle East and China at that time.

Amazing history. William was a descendent of the Viking ruler Rollo, according to Wikipedia, and a large percent of the population of England (and the US) are decended from William the Conqueror, and so from Rollo. I want to know more about history, connections, etc, it is a fascinating subject.

If the Normands invasion never took place, the Irish, Scotts or the Welsh would havd taken power over english, and nowadays UK capital would be Dublin. The Normands created the politic power and the stronghness of the english society and kingdom.

My maternal ancestor, Adleme de Gordun, come from Normandy as a knight in William's army. Eventually, his descendants became the Gordon Clan of Scotland. William was descended from Rollo (Rolf) first Duke of Normandy, a Norseman (Viking)

That great battle is mentioned in the Anglo Saxon chronicles as an epic two line poem. Its a wonderful thing to read a captures the moment brilliantly. Not sure how our brethren north of the border would feel about it though.

William the conquerer was rollo from vikings great great grandson. Took a few years but he eventually done what Ragnor, Rollo, floki, Bjorn, ivar, harold etc etc etc never managed to do in full. Thats a dedicated family

Can't believe the impact one guy can have on the future direction of a once great Anglo Saxon culture. England would still have been great without the normans and it such a shame they frenchifyed a germanic culture.

Why did the Normans use cavalry when their English, French, etc counterparts did not? Not to the same extent anyway. It's also odd that the 'original Vikings' did not use cavalry either.
