The Arabs Sack Rome Early Medieval Italy (846) Zain: I wonder if you would call Christian Crusader's pirates as well? There is a clear condescending and disparaging tone in your rhetoric about the Arab conquests. Furthermore, at least when they took over a place they didn't genocide the native population. cough cough, Spanish Reconquista. cough cough, Carribeans + North and South America cough cough, Crusaders in Jerusalem. Still yet to meet an orthodox or catholic arab who supports the Crusades. If you knew history, you would know that Arab Christians are the reason the 3rd and 4th Crusades failed. They would rather live with their Arab Muslim brothers than imperialist genociding colonizers who claim to be of the same faith as Arab Chrsitians. I appreciate your effort in this video but honestly, theirs a lot of orientalist dogma all throughout.

Your work is great, it is accessibly informative and highly enjoyable.
The Arab tribes conducted raids amongst them selves, not only those on the fringes of their territories. It was - is - a foundational constrict of the Arab way; - it was called al ghazzu - and there were codes of conduct attached to the combat. It was a form of survival in a terrain with few resources. It did however forge a particular aggressiveness of culture, this being of great benefit when it came to be applied in our times to business and commerce, also imbuing a quite often common fiery constitution of character.

Great video. It's funny how so many people can't look at the past and learn from it rather than trying to glorify, defend or demonise the actions of long dead men. I often think that history as a subject is treading water, with academics too busy arguing over skewed accounts of WHAT happened instead of working with each other to consolidate the facts and arguing over theories of WHY stuff happened instead. It needs to become more scientific, like archaeology and anthropology.

The pacing is too damn slow. BORING. Too much information about stuff that doesn't involve the Arab sack CLICKBAIT. Its trying too hard to make the Arabs sound like something ominous and terrible. I've never seen that kind of racism in a video about barbarians or any other white people (including in this video. Just tell the story without spending a half hour giving irrelevant background information. Talk at a normal rate, and don't be racist.

Arabs: Surrender your riches Romans!
Pope Sergius II: Uuuh what riches are you talking about? The Goths and the Vandals already took all the gold, the Ostrogoths took out what was left. Hell, we don't even have bronze or iron left, our own Emperor Constans II took it all from us two centuries ago.
What do you want to loot from us? The marble of pagan ruins? Go ahead we have a lot of those rubbish in the Roman Forum

The Arab history is very interesting, as the Middle East region through the centuries was the subject of the struggles of all the empires. Despite that, the Arabs were strong, defeating the empire after another, weakening for a period to regain their strength and return to brutality in their enemy and the victory is amazing.
reply

Gotta love how Muslims glorify their conquests in Europe and Middle East arguing rule of the strong but when you mention colonialism, crusades and Israel they start crying about international law and victimization syndrome. Keep coping and malding desert dwellers, beyond the desert there is nothing for you.

Wow reading the comments so much hatred on both sides for something that happened over a thousand years ago ironically if a roman person asked for help in Present day i font think many people would help him but but the media helps to fuel the fire an its doing a great job to keep the fire roaring lol
reply

I think the number of Arabs has been greatly exaggerated to make the victory seem less of a victoryt. Just be honest dudes. If 300 skirt wearing Spartans can defeat 70, 000 Persians ( lol ), then why 11, 000 Arabs to take on a minor city.
reply

73 ships, 500 horses and 11, 000 soldiers. the ships had to be MASSIVE
I visited rome / italy 5 cities there and I had no idea that the Arabs ever conquered Rome, courtesy qualified tour guides! they never mentioned!

reply

one day these superpower nations of today will be nothing but ruins and another superpowers will rise just like the fall of rome and the rise of the barbarians of europe, the hordes of asia and the Bedouins of arabia
reply

The title claim that Rome was sacked. But in the video it is rightly described that only the outside land was sacked and the walls were never breached.
U should correct the title: The Arabs nearly sacked Rome

reply

Arabs did not invade Rome. Just because they were Muslims doesnt mean they were Arabs. They were Berbers. African Berbers and they took back the land that belong to their ancestors(Carthage/Phoenicia/Israel)
reply

The first Arab invaded and besieged Rome was Hannibal the Phoenician or hanna-baal in Arabic. Phoenicians inhabited the Levant modern day Syria. They were a clan from the Canaanites Arabs.
reply

It was Naple, Gaeta and Amalfi not all of Italy as we know today. Why do you deny that? Say things as they are not in a covert way. There was no political Italy at the time but city states.
reply

It was not Italy but Amalfi, Gaeta, and Naoles. These city wear a Politican and geographical Identity. Italy was a geographical not political Identity. Di you know the meaning?
reply

NOT Arabs, but Muslims. Nearly of them were Berbers not Arabs. But of course, asking a Brit to be historically accurate is like asking an ostrich to fly.
reply

A failed video There is discrimination and racism against Arabs and marginalization of their history and describes them with ugly descriptions
reply

And romans sacked egypt and became the cause of decline of egyptian civilization and colonised africa also, takling about bloodshed. strange!
