I know this happened over 900 years ago, but part of my love of history is my own emotional involvement with the narrative. The actors in this story are uniformly appalling. I'm having a hard time finding anyone to care about in this sordid tale of brutality and betrayal. If my sympathies lie with anyone, it's with the common people of Anatolia and the Levant who have had to endure millennia of being the principal victims of this brutality going all the way back to Sumeria and Akkad. Of all the candidate regions of the world that show humanity at its worst, this region seems to have the longest pedigree.

20th century history wouldn't come a moment too soon, given the amnesia we see among some in the USA. like who's side we were on in WWII!
And how a LOT of our connection to the rest of the world pivoted on preventing such fascism ever again.
I mean, speaking of Normandy, when the American soldiers were struggling to survive the uphill journey on Omaha Beach in 1944 were they, or were they not ANTIFA? (Y)
Historical knowledge. it's a good thing.

How bout a story on Richard the Lion Hearts siege of Antioch. How does it go. He laid siege for six months of starvation and having Plague infected bodies catapulted over the walls of Antioch, what was left if the people, old men, women and children surrendered. Richard had them marched out into the fields surrounding Antioch and his men Gutted them, looking jewels and gold. The bloodletting went in for days. 17, 000. Died/Murdered

ADANA was taken by my cousin Welf II von Burgund, son of Konrad II Markgraf von Burgund. His memory was apparently lost because he probably died as Adana was retaken by the Bachi Buzuks, so that all the Welf after him should be renumbered. Welf II > Welf III, >Welf III >Welf IV, Welf IV > Welf V and Welf V the duke of Bavaria > Welf VI

Are you ever going to show the Byzantines doing. what they did so well for about 1000 years--urm. winning? Tzimkes or Basil 2 or Heraclius or Justinian or Leo III or Basil I or John Comnenus? I'm curious, you do know they were not just some backdrop of idiots for the Almighty Normans(TM) to bully around, ditto the Seljuks.

Roger lacked the drive of Tancred. A ruler/leader/conqueror/ like Tancred only comes around once in awhile. To be a leader of fighting men you first had to be of noble blood and be able to prove it. That little rule kept many good men out of higher leadership roles.

Thank you for this historical selection. I want to hear more about this area of the world. It's undersold in our school system - despite that these places are a part of biblical history and linked closely to the cradle of civilization. Well done.

History is the study of human thought and human action up until now. Interpret it as you will, and better yourself with that knowledge, because you and I - everyone - will ultimately become a part of history itself.

Christians were not massacred in Jerusalem, the local Christians were expelled from Jerusalem when the crusaders got closer because the Fatimide governor suspected that they would help the crusaders.

31: 00 You missed the part where the fatamids were allies of Alexios Komnenos and had attacked the Turks as part of the same coordinated assault as the crusaders were part of.

Your quality has shot up to the point that I now place you among the very best history tubers. Your videos have excellent detail, objectivity and wide span while not loosing focus.

A good video, though I think it would be interesting to learn more about the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia - the Christian island in the sea of Muslim states of the region

29: 15 from what source do you get that the Crusaders slaughtered Christians in Jerusalem? As far as i know, the Christians had already been expelled from the city.
