video description

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
Alexander the Great has defeated King Darius at the Battle of Gaugamela, and now pursues the Persian usurper Bessus east into modern Afghanistan. He will face revolt, guerilla war and Scythian nomads, but finally he reaches the furthest point of the Persian Empire. He marries Roxana, daughter of a Bactrian lord, then continues his advance into modern Pakistan and India, where he clashes with King Porus of Pauravas at the Battle of the Hydaspes

Magadha empire was too strong ( More then 6k war elephants ) for Alexander. That is the reason his army wouldn't have dared to enter the kingdom. They had hardly managed to win against Puru ( PORUS, a smaller King. They would have guessed their fate if they were pitted against mighty Nandas.
World history, most of the times, is written from Western perspective. Alexander was the first western King who ventured so far to the East. But Eastern Empires were far too developed and mightier than Alexander's. But western historians deliberately turned a blind eye towards this fact. To give excuse for Alexander's lack of power to overcome powerful Indian Kingdoms, they came up with the idea of mutiny by Alexander's army.
The only reasonable fact for Alexander's return is that he came to dead-end as long as expansion was concerned. He was lucky to come out alive from war against Puru. He knew he was no match for power of Nandas and other powerful Kingdoms in the east. This was proven in future by defeats of Greeks at the hands of Chandragupta. ( Pankaj D )

This is incorrect Alexander started losing Afghanistan onwards where once he even lost his own rided horse almost fled for his life by retreating with the rest of his army and couldn't even protect his alliances persons in persia the locals killed them and he couldn't do his usual coward ambush to save them also lost 2 thirds of his Army when he arrived Punjab where had 2 severe defeatful retreats and was nearly killed in the last battle later he lost control of almost all the handful cities he had fastly gained controlled of by doing cowardice type of ambushes not through wars

Alexander, was never able to defeat great king porus. Their are lot of floss in Roman historians story. Porus got more land after the war than earlier. Alexander was not allowed to take the same route to go back. His army didnt wanna challenge a much bigger Army of Dhana nand of the Nanda empire. He had 250000 walking soldiers, 8000 war elephants, 25000 war chariot & many thousands horse men. Alexander didnt dare to go any further.

On ground evidence dictates opposite to history recorded 300 years after the death of Alexander. Alexander likely didnt win the against Porus it was at best a stalemate with retreat or a decisive defeat, thats exactly the reason he didnt turn back towards his strongholds in north which was much nearer but was pushed south. along the river where more of his soldiers perished on their way.

Macedon was a Kingdom of the Macedonians. Separate people!
Greece didn't exist only City States like Athens, Sparta and Thebes did.
Stop attributing Macedonian History to other nations. or in this case tribes.
Just change wherever they say Greek concerning Alexander and the Army to Macedonian and the whole thing is cleaner and makes more sence.
Cheers from Makedonija!

What is this with Indians trying to convince themselves and others that Porus won? Porus lost. Deal with it. As for the gigantic armies in India this was Alexander. He didn't think about the gigantic armies of Persia and the extent of the Persian Empire when he plunged into Asia with his small army. As for the Nanda Empire it was in decline. It dissolved at about Alexander's death.

Lol Alexander was brutally defeated by Porus the great and was forced to return. He stopped his campaign and never returned to attack india again. You all bloody fake historians always try to glorify the lost battle of Alexander at Hydaspass but keep it in your mind it is impossible to defeat Indian and Pakistani warriors.
reply

It's the Western Historian that says Alexander won in India,
A victorious king never returns to home after Battle.
Since, Indians were in partial enslavement after 1200 ad, so History was written to humiliate them.
Alex army was brutally subjugated by Porus army and stopped Alex madness of winning the World.

macedonians like the rest of greeks: had greek names, spoke greek, worshipped the same greek gods, named their placenames with greek names, participated in greek olympic games, traced their originis in greek mythical heroes, spread everywhere the greek language and culture, used coins written in greek

Returning to Babylon, he was met by embassies from distant peoples, come to recognise his greatness.
As he planned his next campaign to Arabia and beyond
He developed a sudden fever and died days later, aged just 32
Alexander died Undefeated in battle

reply

If Alexander had entered India, he would had lost the title the great, because in bcs, India was so advanced with big empires,
India was ruled by nandas and mauryans, who were powerful in the world. Even porus had accepted their suzerainty.

reply

Two facts that need to be corrected.
1. Alexander couldn't win battle of Hydespas to King Porus.
2. Alexander didn't move further into India bcoz of his defeat by Kind Porus & mighty empire of Nanda who were ruling India back then.

reply

Maybe the Egyptians mummified his body and buried him amongst their gods not wanting his body returned to Greece. Guess, we will never really know, but they were happy that he conquered their Persian enemies.
reply

So, therefore, ALEXANDER was doomed because of the decisions of his comrades not his. If only they listened and push thru India, Alexander could have live more and reach all lands on earth.

In my 20's I have read a trilogy from Valerio Massimo Manfredi. It was a more romanticized approach of history nevertheless it was well written. Thank you for this uploads!

I think all of you will agree that the war with King Porus was not covered properly.
Saying it as the costliest war and then no mention of it seems interesting

reply

Alexender defeated in india by king poras and let off. he is wounded very badly. going back he died due to wounds and illness this is the true history.
reply

I heard Porus won the battle against Alexander at Hydaspes, but some European scholars distorted the fact to portray Alexander as The Great
