The Kent State Shootings, Explained - History Stu357: I was 13 when this happened and remember it pretty well. That summer, my camp counselor (who I knew from prior summers) had a big scar on his neck. He told me he was one of the students shot at Kent State and he (and the other students) thought the guardsmen were shooting blanks. I checked out his story (easy to do, it was in all the newspapers) and he was telling the truth. My father was concerned that he was a communist and would try to radicalize me. I told my father that I knew him well, I never heard him talk politics, and the only thing we discussed at length was our mutual love of camping. I remember being surprised that President Nixon didn't take a more active role in the investigation. I had the impression that he didn't lose any sleep over it.

54-y/o here & was a kid when this happened. Newsweek didn't 1st publish the photo, AP did, after the student photog who took it (his 2nd-to-last photo on his roll) then left campus when the Nat'l Guard starting cutting the phone lines. Yes, this was decades b4 cell phones & the Internet. He drove to his local newspaper in Pa. & his editor there wanted to hold the photo for the -next day, - but he said it shd be on the AP wire immediately. AP said a -big news story- (Kent State, which he'd just left) was taking up wire time, & asked him to PLEASE stop trying to interrupt their transmissions? He finally put the photo on the AP wire - 6p. m. & it made front pages the next day (including The NY Times, & later won the Pulitzer. FYI, in any event.

Burning the ROTC building was an act of violence and that alone justifies this. The violence and murder in so called -liberal- protests since have justified this. Our left is way out of line. Anyone who doesn-t have the stomach for this is a socialist undoubtedly as they do not wish to engage with the simple fact that actions have consequences. This was not a peaceful protest and the state was right to shut it down. However, since our government is overwhelmingly controlled by socialists these days, likely the opposite would be true if this happened today. Conservatives would be targeted.

This happened because the police are uncontrollable. When people were saying that they -wished more students were killed- or -they should have shot all of them- is proof of the main stream media propaganda directly after the incident. Proof that media propaganda has always been able to brainwash people and put ideas in their heads that are biased. You can rationalize with students to leave or they could be killed, to leave because kids were killed. But you cannot rationalize with power.

Its simple they wanted to start violence but werent prepared for the violence used against them. This is what should happen against violent, unlawful protesting of today. Until unlawful protestors learn they will continue to do it. If people want to protest peacefully and lawful then thats fine but im talking about the ones attacking people and looting stores. Those breaking the law need a bulle- to change the perspective.

Being native to Ohio, Grandpa always told me growing up that he was apart of the National Guard, and deployed at Kent State. He was always bothered when someone brought up the fact that he discharged after being knocked unconscious by a flying brick from a protester. I never truly understood the magnitude of this statement until now.

All intentionally orchestrated by the M. I. C, just as it is today. We have learned nothing! The powers who should not be, are a one trick pony who have completely mastered their art. Keep dividing and continue to conquer.

lol, imaging something like this happening these days.
massive protests of mainly students and young adults being met with aggression, tear gas and bullets from police?
it could never happen today!

The National Guard didn't shoot enough! Maybe if Nixon would have rid the planet of these anti-American liberals we wouldn't have the disaster Trump is going to have to clean up in 2024.

Portland citizens averted a Kent State type situation because the government did not plant snipers in the crowd. In the next flashpoint situation, the government may include snipers.

I think the authorities and Military should take a lesson from the 70s and just shoot all the protesters rioters and looters. There you go you left wing nuts have fun with this comment

2: 23 Governors don't have the power to override the Constitution. This is the -history- you get when you allow 5 mega companies to own all of your media outlets: the rewritten one.

Crazy how the media still reports on this like they do today with modern police shootings. -They were causing property damage so they were justified killings-
reply

I was 11 at the time. One thing is certain, the government is evil and responsible for most of the problems in our country. then and now.
reply

History like these should never be forgotten or swepped under the rug like some people or our politicians would like to see gone.
