The best food in the American Federal prison system? (They were fed much better in general back then than now, less processed foods) Where is this information from? So the prisoners had one of the most miserable existences being incarcerated in Alcatraz, if not the most at the time, but the Feds were so generous they fed them better than any other prison in America? It doesn't add up with what I know, and I know how power drunk, un elected people operate. I'm not attempting to be combative here or troll like. Misery is your ever present friend while incarcerated and rotten food & being hungry is it's purveyor. Prisons that ate well before the entire thing was corrupted and food service & commissary contracts were sold off to the highest bidder with the lowest standards, every prison was self sufficient in care of inmates as far as daily needs. They were self sufficient little cities basically, with the largest part of budgets going to employees. Even the local jail in my town was at one time called 'The Farm', and I heard stories of people going to jail back then that ate better that they had in years. Fresh beef and pork and fresh vegetables every day. Now it's 'food service' crap. Alcatraz may have had workshops but they were far from being self sufficient and were highly subsidized by tax payer dollars. People that go into jail or prison anytime in the last 40 years for any period of time gain weight because of massive carbs they serve, it's the cheapest calories. Angola - Louisiana's main State prison and the USA's most violent and terrifying penal institution is one of the few still fully self sufficient and run mostly by prisoners, as in the daily workings and products they manufacture and sell, the crops they harvest and the animals they tend. It's a convict farm/workshop/rodeo etc. I know this from several docs I have seen, and that's as close to that shit as I want to get. Do a video on the current day in the life of a 'lifer' in prison at Angola sometime in the future. Life ain't easy and it's even harder when you're criminal minded.
