I always thought of dynamite as a tool for clearing property for construction or destroying no longer wanted buildings. TNT and variants are more what I think of weapon compounds. I have heard that as Nuclear weapons started to burgeon, the obvious point was made: They are so destructive, they are of little value. A city destroyed to radio active rubble is not a very good place to land your invasion force. Then the doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction or MAD was evolved. The idea was that Nuclear war was so awful that war would be reduced. The statistics are supposed to support this. There has been (relative to WWII) less death in war (or so the story goes. So this might be an interesting follow up for Kathy. What use are Nuclear weapons? Are they so terrifying there is less war?

It is very unfair that people is always remembered for what they do and not what they prevent from happening. true, Nobel invented the dynamite, but the dynamite was a way to stabilize the nitroglycerin and preventing unwanted explosions in the mines that used it. Dynamite was much safer to use. Anyway, nice recount of the history around Alfred Nobel. Thank you for divulging these details (and uncertainties,

2: 47 I think it's safe to say this idea has been debunked. The Soviets made a 50 megaton thermonuclear bomb back in the early 1960s. and yet we still have wars. Although, a case can be made that we don't have really big wars any more because of nuclear weapons, so maybe Nobel was onto something. Eh. it's a complicated world isn't it?

What were the explosives used before Nobel invented dynamite and how many were killed using them? I've always thought of Nobel as a man whose invention saved many lives. Thinking about it some more was dynamite commonly used by the military? It still had to be treated with respect which makes it a poor candidate for military use.

Peace movements make us feel good. But, they do no good. Realize this fact: The other guy will not abide by your feelings.
Those who beat their swords into plows will end up plowing for those who don't. Yes. That is a very bitter pill.

People need to understand that economics is NOT an actual Nobel prize but a memorial prize that a bunch of bankster fraud thieves put together to legitimize their fake discipline while ripping off the middle and working class.

3: 04 Alfred was right, but dynamite didn't do it, Nukes did. But here is a thing, watching Nicolas Cage's Lord of War - arms dealers are sleek bastards. All of them will paint such rosy pictures of their craft.
