Alfred Nobel, Bertha von Suttner & the History of the Nobel Prize

Alfred Nobel was known as the Dynamite King and Bertha von Suttner was a peace activist, but together their friendship created the Nobel Prizes! Richard: It's interesting that you mention MAD and then so blithely dismiss it discounting the fact that you are still alive to do so. Not that I explicitly espouse it, but rather that your in-depth analysis is rather flippant and misses the point. Although, you are correct in that Alfred missed the point as well. His super weapon would forestall only wars of magnitude that would make use of such a weapon. I am, however going to forward your excellent presentation in my social media links; good stuff.

There is no Nobel Prize in biology. The Prize will never be awarded to the scientists who discovered the intricacies between photosynthesis and enzyme levels.
However, the scientists who discovered the skin's nerve sensors to detect temperature were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (2021.

Many thanks, an excellent analysis. I just looked up the Nobel prize and wiki and can see it talks about the erroneous quote of merchant of death and no mention of the inspiration of this woman. It would be good if this can be corrected as the myth will just perpetuate otherwise.

What a memory jog, I do remember this story as the proper one with the creation of the Nobel Prizes, I just forget where I first heard this and what year. I don't think it was my college days. (I graduated in '94) This will bug me now.

Too bad they threw one at Obama for just showing up as the establishments Machaveli huckster. It lost all credibility after that move. Then he went on to drone bomb the entire middle east.
That said I still enjoyed your video

Even a subject as relatively dry as this one comes alive with your exposition of it! I always look forward to your stuff, as you know. I ALWAYS learn something new! And that, my dear, is what much of life is about: Learning.

How many great wars have happened since 1945? As far as I know it was a cold war among major powers.
Deaths from small wars are reducing over the years.

But, what about the gossip about the nonexistence of a Nobel Prize for mathematics, which involves a cheating relationship of Bertha with a mathematician?
reply

The ghost of the Nobel Prize for the Theory of Relativity to Albert Einstein is still suspended in the air at the Nobel Institute in Sweden.

In my case she was not ignored; I was woefully ignorant until finding this resource. May this history be long remembered.
