San Francisco in the 1950s - 4K and Remastered

The video shows several shots of public life in San Francisco, California, in the 1950s. We see the clock tower at the end of Market Street, the Esquire Theater (and the Pix, the Telenews Theater, and the Tonga Room at the Fairmont, which has been in existence since 1945. Many of the shown streets have a street car running past them Liberals truly destroyed a once beautiful city; if the people in the video would see what their city became; back then, they wouldn't put up with feces on the sidewalks or zombies walking around with needles sticking out of their necks; I'm sure if anybody tried to loot a store back then, they would get their punishment right there on the sidewalk (police batons and plenty of kicks with wingtip shoes from civilians.

I enjoyed my days in San Francisco, starting in the 1960's through the 70's. I would walk the downtown area, fisherman's wharf, Coit tower, and many other areas, sometimes with my camera. Great fun, and totally different than what it is today. I hope one day to walk safe streets again their one day (although I'm not sure when)

Thanks for the quality and all that, but. I wonder what is achieved by falsifying the images by coloring them and allowing them to be confused with other images that were actually shot in color at the time. It doesn't seem to me that this is go together with historians.

People: -look how clean the streets look and how nice everything looks-
The streets and almost everything around is brand new. Brand new highway system, brand new construction, etc. No sh-- it looks good.

What really struck me is the pacing of everyone and the clothing. nobody is a huge rush nobody is dressed poorly and the streets are clean. If you see this then compare it to today its a bit upsetting.
reply

Great video but I always love how the comments are full of complete dumbasses bemoaning modernity because people can dress how they want now and you can no longer indiscriminately hurl racial slurs

Everything good or bad changes with the times. As much as we would like to wish it doesn't we have no choice. It has to. Like the old saying nothing stays forever.
reply

Its worriying to look at these old clips and think. wow, things looked so much better then. compared to now - the way people dressed, how clean things are, the driving.

As an English person. it's truly hard to watch seeing every white nation become nothing. england is worse as well. And feels like 4, 3rd world countries in 1.

before it turned to a shit bin. Impressive how decadence can install in two generations time diference. The streets look like Moscow today, no graffiti and clean!

Not a single bum blocking the sidewalks. The good all days when real Americans were in charge not the communist, pervs and traitors we have today.
reply

How clean it was when the Nazi's were in charge! Why can't people just give up their humanity and be more like the thugs of 50s US!

I never thought I will ever be able to see such old videos in colour as well as in such high frame rate. All thanks to AI for this!

I am thankful to have grown up within a short drive and spent many a wonderful day in the best area. Before politicians trashed it.

Saw the local news today. and cable car guys STILL have to push those things on the roundabout. They don't wear those caps though.

This looks like an alternate universe. I can't believe it used to be like this and we changed it. changed everything.

The theater at 25 seconds is showing the James Stewart movie -Bend of the River- which was released in 1952!

San Francisco changed so much over the subsequent 15 years or so. I guess American society did in general too.

This is before high tech made the City not fit for human beings who do not make a cool million a year.

With large cars, what were the purpose of small garages. or tiny curb parking between two driveways.
