The worst thing is, if you look at the history of the west, several countries would have completely ignored Japan's invasion of China and all the atrocities they committed there if they were willing to give them good deals on their new resources. Hell, if the empire had managed to make it through WW2, they very well might have joined the Western bloc given that 1) it really didn't care about the nature of allied governments as long as they didn't side with the USSR and 2) Japan would have been an incredible ally to have due to its position on the USSR's eastern flank, and could have been a buffer for the USA.
But then again, it was an imperialistic power, and imperialistic powers rarely think about the long term and are almost never reasonable.

To stop an Anglo sphere of control over the world well that went well
Anglos literally are Germanic in their ancestry, many people forget that. The Germans, British and many Americans are simply north west European in their origin.
The war was fought as three opposing political theologies communism, capitalism and national socialism. We all know those who we cannot speak of backed capitalism and invented communism - their debt usury system hegemony facilitated by central banks could not be challenged by this new system, otherwise they might lose their power, wealth and influence over the world.
If many of you are wondering - yes its still happening to this day and these people have engineered the global crisis you are seeing now

Big, BIG omission. Part of the reason Japan sought out the Germans was the termination of the Anglo-Japanese Treaty in 1921. This left the Japanese without allies in the west and forced them to seek an alliance with receptive powers. Had the British simply told the Canadians in 1921 pish posh, sir, the Americans will never invade Canada over a conflict with Japan and sustained the treaty it's likely Japan never would have joined the Axis. What's more, there's a strong possibility this would have resulted in a nationalist China joining the Axis.

Japan saw these diplomatic disagreements as a threat to its' independence is an absolutely wild line. I get where they're coming from that the western powers were being hypocritical with their own colonial empires (and the US had just finished genociding an entire continent not 50 years earlier, but still, loving the idea that the right to invade China is necessary to be an independent nation.

Navys traditionally are not internationally isolated while army officers can be. Imperial Japanese Naval officers with experience outside of Japanese would have a better understanding. Because they needed to understand opposing countries. Which they to plan for wars with. The concern that an alliance with Germany was Outsourcing a naval War onto Japan was an astute observation

So Japan were doomed to be a puppet whatever action they took because America was so overwhelmingly powerful. And yet Americans still make movies about how the mighty Japanese empire nearly annexed the entire continental US but were stopped by a scrappy rag tag group of soldiers and their cute dog

Also, if I may add, most of the Japanese people were starving, especially after the government needed the remaining food to supply its troops. Japan needed American land because Japan had been suffering famines for a long time, depending on so little farmland for so many people will kill you.

As of 1941 Japan had sourced 90% of it's oil requirements from the USA. The USA did not approve of Japan's foreign policy and sort to influence it by placing an embargo on its oil sales to Japan. Japan had to invade SE Asia for oil, so it had to bomb Pearl Harbour first.

The Asian countries competing with the US are China now and Japan until just a few decades ago.
When the US is about to lose, the first thing it does is change the rules.
So no matter how hard Asia tries, it cannot beat the US.
Especially in the economy.

An obscure topic for a future video- if the Australian Territory of New Guinea was a former German colony, and if Germany was keen to get back its overseas colonies in WWII, why was Germany ok for Japan to occupy this territory (as your map in this video shows?

0: 42 I don't get what all this talk about Japan and equality with the west? I heard Japan was pissed on the west for not being equal with the west after ww1 but I don't really get how does come to be. Equality with what exactly?

Omg, I spent 40 years ignoring what had led to Japan joining the Axis. How ignorant I had been about the motivations of the Japanese. Now I totally get it and recognize I could've been less bigoted about their motivations.

FUN FACT: Britain and USA HAVE been and are trying to form an Anglo-American hegemony (that's what Brexit was for) and Japan, while not exactly a puppet of the West, is still heavily under their influence.

The self-fulfilling prophecy -- to join a war in the attempt to prevent becoming a cultural puppet of the United States, which if you lose (and you will) you become a cultural puppet of the United States.

In other words, Japan created a Mexican standoff between the Allies and the Axis hoping it would come out alive and capable of stopping either side and turned out to be the ham in the sandwich.

There was a strong belief in Japan that Britain and America were trying to build an Anglo-American cultural and economic hegemony across the world.
Glad those worries were unfounded.

The banner on the building at 0: 30 that says China China China China China China China China China China, and the random decision to pronounce GEACPS as a word, both made me laugh out loud.
