Indiana was on effectively 3 time zones: Eastern standard for most of the state with no Daylight time, Central time for Gary and Evansville, and Eastern Daylight for the north shore of the Ohio River. Only some years ago did the standard time part of the state adopt Daylight savings time.
Arizona and Hawaii still disregard Daylight time.
Alaska went from 4 to 2 time zones in the early 1980s.
See half hour time deviations, where some countries or parts of countries have their time 30 to 90 minutes different from adjacent countries or regions. The four Eastern states in Australia do it, as does Newfoundland, Canada.

You said so United States add four time zones but in reality we have five. You forgot Alaska which in the beginning it had four time zones because it is so huge, eventually it was reduced down to one time zone, Alaska time. I know you said 4 zones for the US because Alaska wasnt a state yet but it was purchased in the 1800s, it didnt become a state until 1959.

1: 58 Minor Nitpick
Canada still has 5 time zones, except Quebec switched over to Eastern Standard Time, meaning the Canadian Maritimes are Atlantic Standard Time
Except Newfoundland which is a half hour ahead of AST, meaning Canada has 6 time zones

Liberia, youre late.
Im not. The date you guys asked for was 12/4/87.
1887, Liberia, not 1987 goddamnit.
(edit) I have no idea what actual years were used, and it kinda bothers me. If you wanna correct me, then that is 120% welcome.

I remember reading that the guy who was in charge of the time-convention really wanted Alexandria to be the 'home of time' but the UK threw its weight around and got Greenwich, tho it did start the whole thing so that's fair.

0: 53 Actually when the UK time was unified in 1847, they didn't pick London Time exactly, but 75 seconds later (ie London time=GMT -01: 15. A fact which breaks the Apple calendar program to this day.

Not that it matters too much because only about 10 people live there (kidding, but Labrador (east coast of Canada) is in the same timezone as Newfoundland, not Nova Scotia!

It sounds so neat and organized, as long as you dont mention the International Date Line, the North and South Poles and Daylight Savings Time. Its a miracle it works at all.

First of all, people have known for a very long time that the world is round.
I think in modern day humanity, like 2% of people would love to disagree with us on that

Look for Al Murray, the comedian, explaining how the British decide when the Germans can sit down for dinner. We may not rule the waves but we are kings of the clock.

Just to let you know, oldest clock on the planet is 750 year old and is at Konark Sun Temple in India. Time keeping started here long before even someone planned.

My biggest surprise of this video was the Americans voluntarily deciding to use some international standart and not made a new time system exclusively to them.

Any business owner who has their clocks run slow to steal labor time from their employees deserves to be beaten to death in front of their own family.

I thought the subject of time zones would have related to longitude. You should do a video on longitude. Its a fascinating subject.

So it was the railroads. Interesting. My wife's grandfather was a railroad engineer and his pocketwatch is a family heirloom.

it's somewhat important to not have two trains on the same track at the same time
As a railroader, I can confirm this.
