The 1st colony wasn't the puritans that was king James and the Virginia company of London that operated the town like a busines. When the employee colonists faced extreme hardships, like most of them dying, the company showed up said where's my money not caring a bit about the death toll. The colonists rebelled and got replaced after which the next batch fared marginally better as colonists but recived worse treatment from the company. The second batch rebelled, and rinse and repeat. For the 3rd batch the company divided along ethnic/national lines and created a hierarchy based on where you were from, ie institutional racism. Great if your English or lowland Scott or even a Swede not so great if your other.
The religious folk showed up 13 years later.

This is what we call his story. My family is the Stuart dynasty. My grandfather was the last living direct descendent of the Stuart dynasty. That said, these are the Stewarts, as king James was a wrongful heir as they had taken the royal inheritence if the land and water where my family is the rightful heirs. This is what tbe reference in scriptures refers to as a spiritual war, over municipalities and principaluries, the land and water. The reality is, the truth is coming out and these parasites are going to be shown for that they truly are.

Kind sir (don't know your name. Your videos have really rekindled my interest in history. This is the series I was looking for and so much more. someone else has done all the hard dreary work of mining this huge impure ore of all conflicting historical accounts, smelted out the BS then forged it into a perfectly balanced rapier. Particularly enjoy your even handed humour in both your animations and your narrative. Can't even begin to imagine how much time goes into creating your content. Thank you!

Funny thing about the Gunpowder plot is that when he was discovered Guy Fawkes was trying to dry the gunpowder. with an open flame. That means there was a chance that instead of us learning about a grand conspiracy to kill the King that was thwarted we might be learning about the great historical mystery of the night Westminister suddenly exploded.

Union of the crowns is a misleading term. There were still two separate crowns two separate countries two separate Parliaments and two separate coronations with completely separate coronation regalia. It was just the same King wearing two separate crowns. Or rather three separate crowns as exactly the same principle applied to Ireland as well.

It's funny that James's belief in witches was considered so extreme as to be unseemly even then. He wrote a book hysterically decrying the presence of witches in England and set up courts to persecute them; but mostly people where rather embarrassed by his interest in the topic and convictions were relatively rare.

Elizabeth: Nuance, pragmatism, flexibility. Successful reign.
James: Nuance, pragmatism, flexibility. Successful reign.
Charles: I'm the will of God on Earth, you do what you're told, FIGHT ME. Executed.
I think there's some lesson to extract here, but I caaaaan't quite put my finger on it.

You may be surprised at English who migrated to other countries and founded what became a city named after a city in England. Here in Canada, we have a city named London, which is by a river called. drumroll The Thames. It's in southwestern Ontario and so is the city of Windsor.

Ah yes, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Southwestern Ireland.
: Wouldn't it be more useful to own the bit of Ireland that's on our side of the island and facing the port of Liverpool?
: You're right, let's switch ends!

it's morbidly hilarious how for hundreds of years the English were seriously trying to genocide the Irish natives and in true british fashion they didn't really succeed and the territory revolted and became independent

I find it amusing that for what, 600+ years the British tried to force their will/put their own king on the Scottish throne, and in the end, a Scottish king sat on the British throne. Through a female line, at that.

Apparently I've never looked at the date of the founding of Plymouth, then. I always assumed that the Puritans left after Oliver Cromwell died because no one liked how they'd run the country under him. Well. whoops.

'The thing about Catholics isn't going anywhere soon. '
There's a reason that Tony Blair only converted to Catholicism after he was no longer PM.
The UK will never accept a Catholic leader, even now.

so the Pilgrims didn't come seeking religious freedom like they taught us in public school. they came here to get away from religious tolerance. and to have the freedom to set old ladies on fire.

Fun fact, robert Catesby is an ancestor of Kit Harrington, the actor who plays Jon Snow in game of thrones. He also plays the role of his ancestor in Gunpowder, an HBO series based on these events

James V1 brainwashed at a very early age by his tutor John Knox.
Took off for London in 1603 never to return.
Quite happy to accept the offer from the people who had executed his mother.

Oh and the subtitles are funny as hell. To make matters worse, Buckingham used his money to assist the prostitutes in France. . I'm sure they enjoyed that assist tremendously: )

It didn't work? Oh, so I guess all of Ireland is in the Irish Republic now. Phew, I thought there was a Protestant majority in North Ireland this whole time
