Why did Somalia fail? Documentary

Somalia is a country most famous for having failed. But how did it get that way? Why did Somalia fail? TheZack: 0: 56 the biggest political mistake ever. British Somaliland got independence in 26 June 1960 and after five days they United with the Italian-colonized South Somalia. They had the option to be a separate country but at that time there was this greater Somalia union movement, and that all 5 Somali regions - including the present day Djibouti - should unite under one flag. That dream of uniting all Somali regions failed and in 1977 Djibouti decided to be a separate country after they got their independence from France.
In 1991 after the fall of the Siyad Barre regime, British Somaliland declared an independence from Somalia, and ever since that, it has been the most stable and democratic region in the former Somali Republic regions. They have their own flag, currency, passport, government system, army and they have had 6 different elections where people have directly elected their leaders. But sadly, as of today, no other country is yet to recognize them.

Short answer, as with The Middle East, colonialism took into account the economic gains and resources available in the region over the actual cultural significance of the territories to its regions local populace. And thus derived clearly visible lines in sand where no such things existed. If thats not a recipe for failure then there are no failed states.
For proof
The respect given to ethnic diversity in Europe proves as much. Europe contains 44 countries in approximately 3, 931, 000 square miles. An average of one nation per 89, 341 square miles. Africa contains 54 countries in approximately 11, 730, 000 square miles. An average of one nation per 217, 222 square miles.
By simple math the ethnic diversity of Europe is made far more important than the ethnic diversity of Africa. Because Africa is far less represented in its ethnic diversity while being far more ethnically diverse.

I remember Listening to Mohammed Aidid on the radio in my tent camp, to figure out what tomorrow was going to be like for US Troops in Mogadishu. Sometimes they played music, like Elton John, etc. When Adid was happy with something we did, he'd speak highly of our intervention, but when our assistance was to a rival clan, he called for our heads. It was all very confusing, especially being that his son was a US Marine in country at the time. Nonetheless, I met dozens of wonderful Somali's that just wanted to make their little village or neighborhood better. We helped a small orphanage with food and water supply. When we came back the next day, it was smoldering and the Somali workers said the administrators had been killed the night before. I still can't wrap my head around it. Just why? The kids were all gone too, but to where?

This is somewhat inaccurate, because it leaves out important details
First it was British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland.
Siad Barre was betrayed by US and Soviets. Despite this, we dealt a massive blow to the Ethiopian, Soviet, Cuban, and North Korean alliance.
Separatists in the north (now Somaliland) were directly responsible for the collapse of the country. and everyone's favorite little noncountry, exists at the cost of the entire country of Somalia.
Until now, the British, yearn to call it British Somaliland. And work with these secessionists to balkanize us.
Separatists in British Somaliland were

About five years ago we had a super bad winter. During this time I met a Somali guy at the gas station who was experiencing his first winter. This poor man had two winter coats, two hats, a scarf, snowpants and very thick boots and he was still freezing. I can still remember him saying they said it would be cold but I had no idea it would be like this. He also said he was moving to Nevada the next year so hopefully he found his warmth

Ah yes, nothing fails quite as well or quickly as Nepotism, Factionism, Tribalism, Corruption, all underscored by feral values: Welcome to AFRICA, the failed Continent.
Now about those chinese interests, of late. hmmm, another race to the bottom, while average Tawfiiq is somehow not as successful as his name might suggest. I mean, being dead at 14 is hardly a standard, even in Africa.

Whenever someone criticizes America for being racist I just point to the clan system so prevalent in Africa. Everyone is racist. If you live in Somalia and everyone is black you just have to try harder to find some difference so you can hate on your fellow man. The Japanese are they only people I know that don't hate each other: for thousands of years they have hated the outsider.

I know, let's invade that country in Africa that's never been conquered. Surely that will end well!
But sir, it's never been conquered!
Listen, we'll just ask the USSR for help. Everything's gonna work out just fine!
But sir, the USSR has historically good relations with Ethiopia and has helped THEM with wars in the past!
JUUUUUUUUUST FIIIIIINE!

U. S. Representative Ilhan Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. Her family arrived in the U. S. when she was 13 years of age.
Pres. Biden should appoint her ambassador to Somalia. It'd be the best way to get that crazy arse U. S. hating b-itch back to the place fitting her mindset. And include that brother she's married to as well.

Independence for Somaliland now, we have held elections one man one vote we are stable and peaceful and have nothing to do with Somalia for 31 years, the last time a Somalia President stepped foot on our land was 1985 for the international community to ignore and keep us tied to anchor that is somalia is not sustainable or fair.

If you want peoples natural wealth all you do create war and many will live and keep the rest fighting.
You will take their wealth with out them noticing.
Then get the young drunk and live a free life in Councle flats soon even the future of that country will be no more.

Funny how bad the media portrays somalia, but the ppl there and travellers always say the best reviews lol. These articles are stuck in the civil war era which ended years ago. Somalia is reviving from its mistakes and becoming better than most countries rn

British colonialism has there hands in every major issue. U forgot the point the drain of wealth which was caused by British. There entire industrial revolution is based on expense of others. they only left becoz there wasn't anything left take.

Because Barre was awful. Then the US let in his regime's functionaries/ Some mass mkurdering colonel or captain or something was caught driving a cap in Minneapolis. And the daughter of an Education Commissar now sits in the US congress.

The Somaliland Republic that declared independence actually is democratic and stable, and shows promise for the future, but noone cares enough to recognise it as a nation, and this is probably the biggest barrier to it's success.
reply

You have the History wrong: there was two Regions South and North Somaliland one controlled by British another by Italian. After independence both north and south decided to join and create SOMALI REPUBLIC in 1960

Just another good reminder that imperialist setting up puppets just exaggerate the weakness of both western democracy and eastern communism, susceptibility to oligarchy, kleptocracy and authoritarianism

My uncle got shipped out to Somalia when he enlisted in the US Army back in the early 1990s. The one thing he said is that he really felt bad for the children there, because there was a famine

Would've been funnier if you added a scene where a Somali was shooting an RPG-7 into the sky and a Black Hawk comes crashing down when talking about the US and UN intervention part.

My dad was sent there as a american ranger to help give aid to the people and attempt to deal with the warlords that controlled the local food supply
