Afghanistan is sometimes referred to as the Graveyard of Empires but just how accurate is that reputation? 215Days: 1: 58
You forgot to mention, that. Before that coup, there was another in 1973 which established a Republican one-party autocracy under Daud Khan's command.
Daud had some socialist views and even nationalized banks, but he wasn't exactly fond of Communists, this would be a catalyst to the 1978 coup itself.
Also, there isn't much evidence that the Soviet Union actually helped in the Saur Revolution, although I can't blame the speculation considering that USSR was paranoid even then, thinking Kabul will have influence from NATO.
Considering all this, you could argue that Daud's government wasn't exactly legit, neither was PDPA. But if you argue that it is, then we go back to. Invasion of USSR, it was actually not an invasion at all if PDPA is a legit government.
The whole history of Afghanistan is just a proof of Time is Chaos and Destiny is Unreal, in other words, what should have been predictable might have been but it wasn't.
I love the history of Afghanistan because of how chaotic it is, but for the people that suffer it, I know it's terrible.

Problem is! The Afghans that caused those Empires to flee probably escape to neighborin Pakistan or other neighborin countries! So if you wanna keep Afghanistan! You have to secure the mountains and the borders of Afghanistan! That would take alot of soldiers and smart leaders would have to think carefully of how to keep it under control! You'd have to abolish the groups such as Isis and Al'quida! For the Taliban though would be very helpful! If they were willin to help! But no! You'd have to abolish them to! To properly secure Afghanistan you need good civil relations and abolish opossin groups and you cannot pull out in a yr or two!

The thing you should learn the most is the following
I hear a lot that Pakistan was always a part of india and just look how historically incorrect it is, it was more likely a part of afghanistan or Ancient Khurasan, Pakistan was never counted in the Hind area because ancient borders were not acurately defined thats why we dont know the exact area of ancient Khurasan but it is agreed that it existed somewhere between iran, Pakistan and afghanistan (Modern day, British just took the areas from Afghanistan and annexed it to british India

I read somewhere that the strategy of the Al Qaeda was actually to pull the USA into an unwinnable war in Afghanistan in the hopes that this would cause its collapse. It looks like Al Qaeda failed in that sense because we withdrew before that could happen.

Yeah know what? We should just partition Afghanistan like the great powers did to the Polish Commonwealth. Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan all take a piece from the pie. I can see no way on which this can go wrong.
reply

Dont know about everyone else but I interpreted graveyard of empires as meaning that the location of modern day Afghanistan was once a part of many since fallen empires and not that empires fell while attempting to conquer it.

Every one comes and fcks this country until they want divorce/leave it & terms it graveyard of empires. Afghans happy ending. Like small chokras in kabul hotel every one fs & says TAKRA SHAH ZAWNA ta dair nur e.

I expect to see, in my lifetime, the Taliban as just another tally in the dead empires chapter in Afghanistan's history. To unpopular to exist for a really long time.
reply

Idunno. They get conquered often enough, but really they just get their less mountainous regions and the roads conquered dont really even worry about the mountain regions.

Alexander the Great died of wounds suffered during his conquest of Afghanistan, just more to add to the legend. It was an arrow wound from a bactrian archer

This point is made more clear when you find out that the British Empire still exists we just renamed it to The British Overseas Territories.
reply

I originally thought that the graveyard of empires meant that it was a pain to conquer and empires would waste loads of men and resources
reply

Yeah this is pretty easy to figure out as you can see what the major religion is of the area, and ask how that came to be. Conquest
reply

to think that, us spent 2 trillion dollars in that shithole and got nothing back, is so funny. and seems like its uss time to go lol
reply

This video was released before Taliban take over Afghanistan and defeated USA.

so what I got from this video was that. you can easily take Afghanistan, but you can never really hold on to it, is that right?
reply

Well afganistan was first hindu place. But then muslims conquered it. So it's not a graveyard it is possible to conquer it.
