Basically:
-The Spaniards became rich and mismanaged every single pound of gold and silver
-The french destroyed ecosystems by bad land overproduction and basically left their colonies in ruins.
- The English went like 150 years late and decided to remove Indians from their territory while making trouble with their colonial neighbours just like back home
- The Dutch created New York, stayed in South America a while until they decided that they had enough swamp and contact with the Spanish back in the metropoli and went there to ride bicycles
- The Portuguese played the clueless confused conqueror role by confusing the Spaniards in Tordesillas, and then proceeded to create a colony completely focused on short haircuts, football and destroying the Amazonas

Believe me, it's worth reading all over. The Minoans discovered America. Many ancient Greek and Minoan symbols engraved in spirals were found in North America. Also a Minoan pendant the prince of lilies (The prince of lilies was an ancient Minoan fictional character painted in the palace of Knossos) But also the ancient Greek E (symbol of the oracle of Delphi) was found in a stone temple of pastries. was painted the prince of lilies that I explained before who he was. Minoan DNA (ie Cretan DNA) was also found in Indians! . So Columbus did not discover America, nor did the Normans America was discovered by the Minoans

Very few people at that time realized how the discovery of the Western Hemisphere would change human history. Not even the Spaniards themselves were fully aware or care about it. King Ferdinand of Aragon was more interested in extending its empire in Italy and the Mediterranean than in the New World. The Spanish Crown the did not put much attention in the New World until it started receiving tons of silver and gold from the Americas. This huge influx of wealth caught the Spaniards unprepared. Spain was the man who won the lottery.

Its so damn dark to contemplate how little the Europeans knew about what was going on in the societies and cultures in the americas. We show up spread some disease and like 90% of everyone native to the american continent dies horrible in a few years. Meanwhile Europeans marvel at the great lands that just lay empty every where. There was the equivalent of the black death going on across the entire continent freeing up the land for European settlers.

Fun fact: Non plus ultra means no more further referring to Europeans (and most of catholic or even other religions) thinking how there was an end to the world with a huge fall and waterfalls and everything. Time after the Spanish conquered and discovered America, the sentence plus ultra would start to be seen in some places meaning more further, referring to the before fake myth. No in the Spanish flag you can still see that sentence drawn in

There's another line of thinking that the discovery of America helped lead to modern science by discrediting that the ancient Greeks knew everything worth knowing (they didn't know about America. If the Greeks didn't know everything, then it was OK to question Aristotelian science, which contributed to the rise of modern empiricism and scientific discovery.

Leif Erikson wasn't a Discovery because he and his Norsemen were beaten by the Indians and they fled back to Greenland.
It didn't become widespread knowledge about where he went and came back from, at that time.
Columbus sailed for Spain and it opened up many voyages which discovered South and Central America, the East Indies, and North America.

I remember the discovery of the new world. There was a pretty cool article in the daily newspaper about it, next to the one about the rising popularity of a bevarage called coffee and the one that was about property developers evading land tax by building multi-story houses. Then I had to get off the chariot and go back to work.

Couple of wrong details in the infographics: the trip was not a straight line from Spain to the Americas, it was with a stop in the Canary islands; the iberica peninsula map is wrong as, not showing proper alliances among kingdoms of Castilla and Aragon if we are going to teach history, details are important.

This is not correct Leif Erikson isn't the first person. Both the Phoenician Empire and Carthage made it to the new world problem is both Tyre and Carthage records were destroyed. You can see the evidence they did reach the new world but not the name of the first person who did it that is lost in history

I'd imagine the biggest difference for most Europeans was the arrival of food crops that became their new national cuisine. Potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, squashes, maize. Potatoes are believed to have fueled 25% of Europe's population growth from 1700 to 1900.

1: 57 is not quite true: there was the issue that Native Americans had presumably not been given the opportunity to hear the word of Christ, which would imply they all go to hell, but that didn't seem reasonable since they hadn't chosen to reject it.

I imagine they reacted the same way they always do when they hear about the opportunity to go to a foreign land: I can't wait to rape murder and loot! They did it in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Australia, it's just their base instinct.

I have a suspicion that this was made in reaction to Americans in History Matters's comment section getting a little too rowdy. But hey, that's just a theory. A HISTORY MATTERS THEORY!

Why english didn't show interest in the new continent. Maybe several civil wars, a dictator (Cromwell) and a cup d'etat supported by the Netherlands. What an amazing century.

America was 'new' to the Europeans but there were already people living here, Native Americans, so it wasn't NEW at all. That term should be used extremely lightly, If at all!
