Don't make it seem like the fight is over, Ireland is STILL trying to get its land back from a cruel, bullying empire. It did not accept British rule officially in NI until 1998 and then only under the terms of a peace treaty which Britain seems hell bent on tearing up to suit its jingoistic anti-EU rhetoric in Little England. It cares not a jot for the Irish or the Northern Irish.
Also, at the time of partition what is now Northern Ireland had one of the biggest shipyards in the world, while the Republic had not very much. That is why partition took place. And Britain stoking racial divides, like it did with India and Pakistan and with Israel and Palestine.
If you are British I am not having a go at you, I would just rather your governed your own lands and left the Irish to govern theirs. Our Country in unrecognisable from the third world back water you left behind a century ago thanks to the ingenuity and hard work of Irish people. And of course making better friends than the British.

I think that in the wake of the recent Northern Irish election you should do another video like this talking about The Troubles which took place from 1968 to 1998 and contained events such as The Dirty Protest, Bloody Sunday, and a hunger strike in 1981. This conflict ended with the signing of The Good Friday Agreement which solidified Northern Ireland's right to become part of The Republic if it gained a majority vote in favour of union with the republic. A situation that seems more and more like now that Northern Ireland has significant Sinn Fein representation in it's parliament of Stormont as well as a majority of Northern Irish people being unhappy with the results of Brexit.

Never come close to reunification Not entirely true, there is a high chance that in a months time, Sinn Fein (who stand primarily for unification) will hold the most seats both in the south and the north, with them leading the north. In 10 years time when the north becomes somewhat profitable and more catholic dominant, unification will happen, all it takes is for the majority in the north to vote for it.

Two more things. Did the divide not really start with Henry VIIIs split with Catholicism?
Elizabeth I had to remain Protestant or else shed be a bastard, so the anti-Irish laws about not owning property and other punitive measures remained. Also, promises made to the Irish if they would fight with the Brits in WWI were not kept. So the Irish remained neutral in WWII.

You didn't make it clear enough that the Ireland that was founded in 1921 which had the British monarchy (the Irish Free State) was dissolved in 1937 for the modern day Republic of Ireland, which absolutely does not have the British monarchy. Hope no one watching this assumes the monarchy still exists there, as it hasn't for nearly a century now.

They're not 2 separate nations. Ireland is just one nation but is apart of 2 countries the United Kingdom and Republic or Ireland.
The nation of Ireland is the full island, the country of Ireland excludes the 6 northern counties

The short version is: Contrary to popular belief, successionism was far from universal in Ireland. The areas where many residents had friends/family in Britain opted to stay part of Britain.

Ireland would have lost so much face and legitimacy if they tried to take Northern Ireland by force, as they would basically be exactly the same as England.

Two months later, Sinn Fein became the largest party in Stormont, marking the first time a nationalist party has achieved this.

If you did a Ten Minute History on The Troubles in Ireland, that would be a really cool video, I'm quite curious to learn about it

Even simpler answer. Ireland is divided to keep the murderers in the south and limit them killing innocent civilians.
